the dispo i use, they scan the barcode on the back to run a quick verification.

Yeah most places have been doing that, but many states make the bud tender check it again.
To be fair, they're probably high and forgot to read it the first time.
Deoending on the state, they have more regulations around it that require them to not just check it, but scan it to enter it into a database. They have a bunch of extreme and bullshit rules for legal weed in Cali.
I guess that's one way to rationalize your alcoholism
