I don’t get this quote. The Mandalorian came out first, and as a result of its success, Kenobi was retooled in production to mimic it. That’s primarily why Kenobi flopped.

"They brought out Disney+ and they wanted a big splash, and I thought that's what we were going to be and then just before we made it, The Mandalorian came out," McGregor said at Fan Expo Chicago 2025, as reported by PopVerse.

they were working on it long before the mandalorian was released. it was supposed to be a movie but they pivoted to TV after Solo flopped.

And Solo flopped thanks to Last Jedi, probably would have done fine if it wasn't for the timing.

I actually enjoyed Solo, and wish they would make another.

I'm hoping the new Darth Maul show continues the storyline and proves successful. Then we can go back and get new Solo in a newly established era.

I mean, they also basically completely restarted production when they were 90% done. That movie cost almost $400m to make, I think.

Both Solo and the Mandalorean were better then it. The should have just renamed it Leia, because that's at least closer to what it was. And it would have been a shit Leia movie

no argument there, just explaining his perspective leading up to the release.

Yeah, I was just bitching about how bad it was, just had to get it out lol

It's kind of a bummer, because I thought Mcgregor and Christensen were amazing in the show. But everything around them was lifeless and dull.

I'm not a star wars fan but I recognize that it's greatest strength is it's vast universe where they can set really interesting characters with almost no limits. So why do they keep flogging the same handful of characters over and over?

It was great. They killed it off.

You gotta committ to more than one season if you're going to do sci-fi. There's too much going on and too many characters for almost all stories.

You can't retool it in the middle.

You can't make it something that it's not.

Just make the sci-fi, and give enough of it to actually give it a chance. Obi was a huge character, and Ewan is always fantastic.

Boo! Disney is evil and fascist

Every single product that has McGregor’s Obi-Wan has been utter garbage.
