In an unusual move, Donald Trump’s administration is using the US Department of Housing and Urban Development website to blame the looming government shutdown on the “radical left”.

The giant red banner, splashed across the agency website on Tuesday morning, comes after Republican and Democratic leaders did not reach an agreement on government spending legislation beyond the Tuesday night deadline, which will result in hundreds of thousands of employees furloughed and agencies shutting down key functions.

Damn them left people that are in charge of the government! /s

[–] evilcultist@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

The left even flew all the way to Washington to get away from any sorts of negotiations with the right!

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 48 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I am going to blame it on the MAGAts that control all three branches of the government.

No no, it's that radical Stalinist Chuck Schumer with his extremist policies of sending everyone in the room to sleep with longwinded explanations of why, despite the mildest of misgivings, he's agreeing to everything. It's basically terrorism.

The dems are fighting to keep healthcare and the republicans don't wanna. That's what this fight is about.

Basic trans rights are also at stake. The current provisions that Republicans want would basically strip all adult trans people of any gender affirming care, which WILL cause a LOT of deaths.

In addition to the extraordinarily high suicide rate amongst trans folk (almost 50% due to shit like this), HRT isn't something you can just turn off. It can lead to osteoporosis and a whole host of other issues, some of which are life threatening.

I want to be clear: Republicans are salivating for a transgender genocide. They want us to simply die, and I unfortunately expect Democrats to fully throw us under the bus

It’s wrong of you to want healthcare. Apparently.

As soon as the newly elected Democratic Congress-woman is sworn in there will be enough votes to release the Epstein files. It's one of the things Mike is holding up by closing the house.

Yeah I read about that. Fucking insane. Is it true that she can be sworn in by a federal judge? I read that but haven't bothered to check if it's true

Control all 3 branches of government, and literally Mike Johnson ending the session early to avoid unwanted votes and bring on the shutdown.

Why would the “radical left” do this?!

Also, how the fuck can anyone be taken seriously who refers to the likes of Jeffries and Schumer as “left”?!!!

“The Radical Left are going to shut down the government and inflict massive pain on the American people unless they get their $1.5 trillion wish list of demands. The Trump administration wants to keep the government open for the American people,” states the message on the HUD website, which also appears as pop-up window. The message is reminiscent of the language the White House has increasingly used on social media accounts, as well as the president’s personal posts.

Asked about criticism that the message on the public agency’s website was partisan and inappropriate, HUD spokesperson Matthew Maley said in an email to the Guardian: “The Far Left is barreling our country toward a shut down, which will hurt all Americans. At HUD, we are working to keep critical services online and support our most vulnerable. Why is the media more focused on a banner than reporting on the impact of a shutdown on the American people?”

These people are utter cretins. A normal human would feel shame after brazenly lying to this degree.

Any Democrat who votes for this dumpster fire of a spending plan would risk not being reelected. Why would you do that? Shut down is on the ones who happily created the dumpster fire in the first place, not the ones suggesting maybe stop adding fuel to it.

It's worse than that...

The Senate gets a single reconciliation bill a year that only needs 50 votes.

Last fiscal year (the one ending today) didn't have a budget because Republicans used their one bill for the "BBB".

If Dems negotiate on the budget so Republicans don't need more than 50, then Republicans get a free bill they can pass the Senate without any D votes.

It's not just a waste, it's handing trump a free ticket thru a senate fillibuster.

Only a complete and total fucking idiot would have tried to negotiate with trump expecting more than Schumer got:

As the US government barrels toward a shutdown, President Donald Trump shared a racist video on social media, which appears to be AI-generated, depicting House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and a mustache and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer speaking in a fake voice.

Jeffries and Schumer met with Trump just hours before at the White House to discuss the looming shutdown.

In the video, Schumer is depicted as arguing for undocumented immigrants to get “free healthcare” because minority voters hate Democrats and they could use the votes in the next election.

As mariachi music plays in the background of the video, the fake Schumer voice says, “There’s no way to sugar coat it: Nobody likes Democrats anymore.”

The fake voice goes on to echo false GOP claims about Democratic policies and slam liberal leaders as “woke.”

I mean, the radical left didn’t vote for Harris enough so I guess it’s kind of our fault

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I'm starting to think a humiliation kink is a prerequisite for being in this administration.

[–] Tenthrow@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I had no idea that the radical left was so capable!

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

Hey so if the tarriffs are making so much why would the government shut down. I mean all this tarriff money comes through every day regardless of congressional budgeting and it gets in the coffers. Im confused??? /s

Does anyone have a good breakdown of this 1.5 trillion number?

Everything I saw while searching was pretty right wing and it would be nice to have an idea if some of it is pessimistic, or even to have some of the numbers explained rather than solely demonised.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

The radical left from their perspective. Also known as everyone. Also known as the new targets for the us military.
