Lemmy World Rules

TLDR: Is it crazy to put a big TV on the floor for a couch battle station so that my eyes at couch height are at the top of the TV on the floor?

Context: I got a good price (buddy doing a clearance sale) on a 100" (254cm) hisense tv, so I want to setup a couch battle station.

I've always been near sighted, and I want to use this as a opportunity to move my display farther away from me. So put the 4k TV on the ground on the other side of the room, sit on the couch with a wireless keyboard / mouse and be productive.

When I'm sitting on the couch my eyes are about 120cm (~50in) from the ground, and putting the TV on the ground puts the top of the screen at 131cm (88in).

Anyone else doing a on-the-ground tv setup?

What quality of life add-ons can you suggest?

Your posture on a sofa will be different than sitting on an office chair, so the tv should be off the ground a little, maybe a foot or two.

I sit in a recliner and use my tv as a second monitor. It’s on a 20” high stand and it works great for me.

How far is the TV from you/the couch? It would only potentially become a problem if you're too close to it.

Yeah, that'll be fine. Might seem a bit out of place but the viewing angle/posture will be ok.

I had a 65" touch screen on loan from work for a few months and I had a floor setup because it didn't have legs. It leaned against my TV stand and I'd work on my laptop on the coffee table. And because it was half covering my TV, it became my TV.

Felt really cool for awhile but in the long run, I advise against it. It looks and feels in the way. You can't put your feet up and you get a sore back from slouching.

Put it 2ft from the ground and I think you'll be happy

Fucking try it out. Or design a simulation that you can use VR in, so that you can fucking try it out!

You won't really know until you try it, so fucking try it already. Then adjust it. Eyes at top of screen!? Wha?

Your bang on - I'll just give it a whirl. its just really heavy, awkwardly shapped, and difficult to move around, so I want to get it right on the first go, and I have time to kill before it gets delivered

I am thinking of putting the TV on a furniture dolly since it weighs 72kg (160lbs), in the event I need to get behind it I can just pull the dolly out.
