Republicans have begun to frame the protests as “hate America rallies,”

I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but exercising your right to protest is one of most patriotic things you can possibly do.

Share that message with anyone you know who needs to hear it.

Some people are reclaiming the flag at protests

It’s needed, to show in photos where the protests are happening. Don’t let them handwave the photos away as some third-world country.

I hate MAGA's America, and will fight to kill it.

Yeah, I mean they literally founded their country via a protest which resulted in tea getting chucked into Boston harbor.

We sit around and bitch about the corporations caving to the alt-Reich, about Congress people just giving in to Trump, about ICE not having a conscience to do the things they do.

Yet as long as we only sit and bitch, as long as we're not fighting back in some way, we are also complicit in what our country's government does.

If you honk your horn to warn people ICE is around, you are protecting them. If you protest the regime, others will see that there's are others standing up and this is not inevitable. If you call your Congress people, you are telling them what the will of the people is, and that people are watching their actions. You don't have to do everything, but you should be doing something.

How can you expect corporations to care or Congress people to have a spine, if you won't even pick up a phone? Courage, and consciences, are contagious.

This coinciding with the government shutdown could increase turnout and really fuck with city operations.

I recall the first trump term'e shutdown ending when protests shut down leguarda airport.

Shit's never going to change because we keep scheduling protests instead of protesting every day in every way possible. At home, at work; protest everywhere.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is necessary to get people started out.

Gets them familiar with how protesting needs to be done.

So when shit inevitably gets worse, they and their friends who stayed home last time will be out again and likely for longer too.

You want to move millions of people to fight for freedom? Gotta get them used to the motions first.

Yep! I for one will be carrying a sign promoting www.generalstrikeus.com as the next big step we can take as a people against the ruling class.

A king is a dictator, they have unlimited power. Plus there's the context of the US breaking off from the UK because they didn't want a king anymore. You could use "dictator" instead as the modern term but then you lose out on the historical connection pointing out the irony.
