A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Those letters probably wouldn't be very helpful, so it'd basically be a $25,000 dick joke lol.

(Or whatever the grand-prize value is these days)

You definitely make a good point. I hardly even watch the show, but somehow I manage to solve at least a quarter or so of the puzzles without paying much attention.

Which begs the question, when they broadcast the show, why don't they leave the letters on the screen at all times in a corner rectangle for the viewers to see at all times?

The TV audience is at a bit of a disadvantage as the actual contestants on stage, at least the contestants get to see the letters at all times through the game..

🤔

They leave it on screen more often now, will cut away sometimes

Nah, the letters on the board typically stay on the TV screen basically just as long as they did back in the 90's. Believe me, I've been paying very close attention, as I've also been trying to debug the animations in one of their original PC video games in emulators.

I've really been paying attention, watching old episodes and newer episodes, the letter board time on screen might have changed a bit over the years, but not by much. It always cuts away when the contestant speaks, basically meaning almost nothing has changed on letter board timing.

My point is, in all fairness, the letter board should always be displayed in the corner of the broadcast screen, as the contestants always get to see the letter board.

You just said that you barely watch the show in your last comment, then here say you pay super close attention. Which is it?

Anecdotally, they will display the board, a quick pan over to the person ready to spin, a close up on the wheel, and then back to the board until the next spin. The board screen time is probably displayed at least 50% of a puzzle.

I'm not sure if I agree or not about the board always being displayed in the corner. I'd have to see a PoC to know if that would bug me or not, but I do understand why someone may want that.

Barely watch vs paying close attention?

That depends on the season of the year and how much I give a shit to even pay attention. I'm not an average viewer, I don't watch religiously. I'm different. Those that watch religiously typically only watch the latest episodes. Not me.

When I bother actually watching, it's usually either right after I came out of the restroom to banter my roommate before the solve, or when I'm trying to figure out how to un-glitch the animations of Vanna White on the game for Windows 3.11.

See, those that watch religiously don't tend to go back and watch old episodes hardly ever. When I'm interested though, I definitely do watch both old and new shows.

The format of the show hasn't changed much in a long time.

Good idea!

I wonder which letter set would statistically be more probable? 🤔

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dick are probably more common letters, but it just depends on what the puzzle is

It always depends on what the puzzle is haha!
