Fediverse vs Disinformation

1752 readers
1 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

It's 2025 and even people at Al-Jazeera are still lending those lyers credence through headlines that give them the benefit of the doubt. I would recommend against sharing such pieces, even here.

Just like all numbers coming out of the dictatorship, lies. Just like the Canada drug problem, propaganda created to fit a narrative.

The more unlikely a statement the more proof it needs to back it up.

A) No

B) Even if it were true, they would be 25,000 lives that American domestic policy would end anyway due to lack of social programs

I'm not convinced they've saved any lives because I don't believe anything they've said about the boats.
