President Donald Trump said Tuesday he's probably owed "a lot of money," responding to a newspaper report that he was seeking $230 million US in damages related to two investigations into his conduct.

The New York Times reported Trump had filed administrative claims before he was re-elected last November, concerning both the FBI's 2022 search of his Mar-a-Lago property for classified documents and for a separate investigation years earlier into potential ties between Russia and his 2016 presidential campaign.

The status of the claims and any negotiations over them within the Justice Department was not immediately clear. A Justice Department spokesperson told The Associated Press that "in any circumstance, all officials at the Department of Justice follow the guidance of career ethics officials."

But Trump, in his response to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, said any decision would "have to go across my desk."

Imagine if every criminal got a cool $230 million for being investigated for their crimes.

He's as dumb as he is corrupt. Or maybe vice versa...

And he's doing the same thing to his political rivals.

At least now we can stop saying that Trump isn't living on the taxpayer dime. MAGAts have been saying that for years, that he refuses the presidential salary ($400K a term or $1.6M). That's chump change compared to $230M.

He thinks he's owed more than any other president, potentially more than the rest of them combined.

He may get it, but his followers should be called out every time they try to use it as a talking point, if they continue to.

We all know the real money for him is in the bribes anyway.

It was supposed to make everyone feel okay about him literally destroying the White House when he said that it would be paid by private donations from him and some of his "friends" (look everybody, I have rich friends).

But I've watched this joker long enough to know that he will strongarm the Sociopathic Oligarchs to donate, collect a billion dollars, spend $250 million on his boondoggle (and stiff most of the contractors, especially the small ones who can't fight back), and pocket the rest.

It's just another cash grab from his followers.

Don't assume facts will stop bad-faith arguments.

MAGAts have been saying that for years, that he refuses the presidential salary ($400K a term or $1.6M)

Uhhhhhhh.......that math doesn't add up. Even if we account for all of his second term all at once, wouldn't it still be 800k?

[–] QBertReynolds@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago

I think they meant to say $400K a year or $1.6M a term.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

but his followers should be called out every time they try to use it as a talking point, if they continue to.

I mean, facts and logic haven't helped anything in almost a decade...

So lets just keep being smug and trying it over and over and over...

Surely that'll solve everything, we just have to try it 3,653,986,323 times!

I can't wait to read his obituary.

[–] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm just gonna skip down to the part where it says what the cause of death is, which I'm hoping is "McDonald's french fry lodged in wind pipe".

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

French fry? Is that what they are calling guillotines these days?

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why not 230 billion? Or 230 trillion? No one's going to say no.

Sounds like its totally serendipitous and not at all tied to the $230M he needs to add to $70M in donations (bribes) for his ballroom. Surely Mr Wealthy has hundreds of millions to throw around either way, and he’s definitely not realistically broke nor terrible with money. Its just coincidental, see? The taxpayer is paying Trump, and Trump is paying for the ballroom. Totally different than the taxpayers paying for the ballroom

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

He did demand the exact same amount that the ballroom costs. I doubt that's a coincidence. It would be just like his brand of stupidity to do that, and think nobody will figure out what's really happening.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, he should be payed out... enough rope to swing from a scaffold.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Ideally, only enough for the short drop.
