Always upset that #6 is “quiche” and not “pie” which is obviously the broader category

[–] Tagger@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (5 children)

But a pie should have a lid. If anything #7 should be pie rather than calzome.

[–] youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world 20 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (5 children)

The lid is optional (pizza pie, pumpkin pie, quiche) I will die on this hill

[–] grue@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I feel like there are more kinds of pies without lids than ones with them anyway.

But then that would make a covered pie a calzone! And a hot dog a taco! And soup a salad! And an omelette a salad! And ice cream a sala- wait... I think this system is growing on me...

[–] brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Could y'all please stop dieing on hills all the time?! I love hiking, but all the corpses are really disturbing.

What a splendid pie. Pizza pizza pie.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

And even with a lid, it isn't quite #7.

#7 is for things where there's basically no distinction between the top and bottom. Even pies with a crust on top has a distinct "top" side, whereas the sides and bottoms are all pie crust.

#7 is for calzones, corn dogs, burritos, dumplings, pot stickers, ravioli, etc.

A closed top pie form is called a galette.

The open top form is pie.

[–] trolololol@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

You got the galette backwards

[–] Kanda@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This means that a calzone is a pie or that a pie is a calzone

Calzone is a pie.

A slice of apple pie is a taco. A slice of pumpkin pie is toast. A whole apple pie is a calzone, a whole pumpkin pie is a quiche. See how silly you sound?

(/s, the whole thing is clearly silly)

My therapist will be hearing about this

[–] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago

Calling a pie a quiche would upset more people. Thus quiche.

[–] brap@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

But quiche is even more fucking delicious.

[–] MacNCheezus@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I mean, it’s basically an egg pie with cheese and/or bacon, how could it not be delicious?

Walks in with a burrito

“Behold, a Calzone”

Walks in with a hot dog

“Behold, a taco”

Walks in with an enchilada

“Behold, sushi”

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 15 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Fool! That isn't a cake!

It's a lasagna.

Isn’t McDonald’s bread legally cake due to its sugar content?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

That court ruling was about Subway's bread, but I don't doubt McDonald's is similar.

If you're going to bring lawyers into this, we'll never see the end of it.

The "sushi" should be "burrito". That's just one type of sushi, because what I picture when I hear "sushi" would probably be in the "toast" category (if rice counts as the "bread")

[–] falseWhite@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Sandwiches don't necessarily need to have bread on top.

Most sushi is not wrapped at all.

I call this BLASPHEMY!

[–] mad_lentil@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

Casserole is a salad eh? I kinda dig it

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I’m confused by the salad. Shouldn’t it be dozens of layers? I’m unfamiliar with whatever this meme’s progenitor was

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

This is what it comes from, and this meme is a poor cut of the rules and logic, probably for space reasons.

A salad with croutons is nachos.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

The layers have to be starches, but if you have croutons then chaos

[–] VicksVaporBBQrub@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

No, that's a "torst" whatever the fuck that is. You have a bottom of carb and no sides or top.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What if I put the meatballs down first and then top it with spaghetti?

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

Upside-down torst

A quiche is a kind of pie. So that item should be the pie category, not the quiche category

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

A cuiche is a casserole in a dough.

[–] Wolf314159@startrek.website 1 points 4 days ago

Pie is just a sweet quiche with fewer eggs.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 4 days ago

Nope, it’s missing a lid.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 5 points 5 days ago

Back in my day they used to charge by the pixel.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago

A sausage roll is now sushi.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 days ago
[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

This is missing several configurations.

Like two open and adjacent faces like a shawarma, or the inverse of two filled adjacent faces, which is a folded pizza slice

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Shawarma is a type of sushi and a folded pizza is taco

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

No, folded NY style pizza has one crease

Shawarma is mostly covered except where the toppings are exposed

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Yep, that's right. What's your point?

[–] _core@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

I've started so many fights with this 😁

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

The one labelled “calzone” is pie, as it has a base, sides and a lid. A calzone is just a pizza folded over, which by this designation system makes it toast.

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 days ago

Folded over clearly makes it a taco
