Toyota Hilux. A nice blend of not too uncomfortable but will carry me anywhere I choose to go. Seen a lot of places that thing.

Not a perception as such, but as a metalhead too I wonder what their gateway band was or who they might listen to that I'm unfamiliar with. General intrigue really.

Makes me wonder if those who favour other genres think the same.

Yep. I moved from smoking to vaping. It became a bit of a hobby but I quit that too after a few years just by lowering the nicotine bit by bit and ended up just not using it when the habit was no longer fuelled by addiction.
