THE POLICE PROBLEM

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

I'd love to hear how a man standing still 30' away holding a sign was a direct threat to a team of people wearing body armour.

Because fascism. Do what I say or I jail, torture, or kill you. How do you not get this?

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

One of the 2 of you is definitely not getting something...

[–] cabbage@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah.. But online communication can be tricky. Failure to identify sarcasm is a lot more excusable than failure to identify fascism. :)

The protest signs need to say that ONLY the President has Presidential Immunity and Presidential pardons won't protect you from State charges.

Make the fear go in their direction, because who these pricks are - will come out in time.

No. The supremes may have given this president blanket immunity but we don’t have to accept it. Even presidents need to be accountable for their decisions: no kings

But yeah for presidential pardons not affecting state charges (despite this president trying to extort that), and also statute of limitations is longer than tacos four year term

Funny that you're overestimating Nazis’ ability to read or care about anything than their desires.
The Supreme Court already support this.

Anyone know if the priest is alright. Those things are incredibly hot. It looked like it burned his face but because it stops there no way to know if he got knocked down although the gas itself is so concentrated im worried about his lungs to.

There's a little text with more details at the SF Chronicle: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/stun-grenade-immigration-21116379.php

Agents also used a special gun to fire at least one pepper-spray round at a protester on Thursday morning, the Chronicle reported, striking him in the chin and sending him to an emergency room. A photo captured by the newspaper showed the man’s face and left shoulder covered in orange or yellow powder.

Image Caption: Jorge Bautista, a clergyman with the United Church of Christ, reacts after he was hit in the face by a pepper round from a federal agent as protesters blocked the entrance to Coast Guard Island Alameda, where they were sent to as a staging area for an immigration crackdown, on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025. Stephen Lam/S.F. Chronicle

Law enforcement agents typically use pepper-spray balls and other "less-lethal" projectiles for crowd control. The projectiles are hard, plastic spheres designed to burst upon impact, releasing a cloud of powdered chemical irritants. Agents typically shoot them at the ground or at walls, not people.
It was unclear which device and brand Border Patrol agents used against protesters on Thursday.

this is fucking bullshit, these 'less than lethal' weapons should never be aimed at people this close, and never at the head. fucking bonkers. These suckass temo nazies have zero ROE. They're trying to incite a violent response to their shit.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

They're also being disingenuous about less lethal, that's a 40mm or 1.5" projectile moving like 300fps. Even the sponge rounds are marketed as potentially lethal under 10meters.

The 40mm Direct Impact® Round will prove most successful for incapacitation when used within their optimal energy range of approximately 5–40 meters, although it may used in situations from 2–50 meters. Extensive testing was done on the Direct Impact® Round to ensure that the round is less-lethal when fired within the optimal energy range and at the large muscle groups of the buttocks, thigh, and knees. These areas provide sufficient pain stimulus, while greatly reducing serious or life-threatening injuries.

If this wasn't a fascist country, that asshole would be charged and thrown in prison for several charges.

Now he gets a promotion.

After a basic internet search using the details found in this post, I found this.

Meet the Bay Area pastor shot in the face with pepper ball at Coast Guard Island protest

Note, it was only just published on 10/24/2025. Sometimes reality happens before a professional journalist writes and gets their story published. If not for the fact that the victim was a pastor, it might not have been noteworthy at all.
