This seems to be an ad for a 4.3" low res e-ink phone (Mudita Kompakt) with crappy specs that costs $439. The e-ink angle is interesting but it's otherwise afaict just another off brand phone.

Nope, just a personal account of using the phone for the last couple months. Take notice there is zero advertising on the site, no affiliation whatsoever, it's completely unmonetized, created for readers not bots or corporations. I literally got the phone to deGoogle, so it seemed appropriate to the sub to me.
Interesting, I didn't know E ink-phones were a thing. Tablets sure, but not phones.
this also has got me very interested. I assume lower power and easier to read.
Check out the Bigme Highbreak Pro, that sucker is 5G.
I have the same phone. It's fine. I keep my Pixel phone with GrapheneOS on it at home for banking apps, Briar, and a couple other things. A few things to note:
- The slider on the side doesn't turn off the GPS antenna, so you can still navigate with the GSM module unpowered using the default maps application or another offline-capable app, which is nice.
- The company advertises the slider as a tool to protect you from "harmful 4G waves", which is a bit concerning for their direction as a company.
- Mudita decided to completely abandon releasing their software under an open-source license for this phone, which sucks.
- InkOS is an open-source launcher that was designed for the phone and it's great.
- Software features that were advertised even before the launch of the phone are still not available not planned to be available (certain stock launcher customizations in particular)
- Not the phone's fault, but you can't have Signal installed on multiple phones for the same account, so I have to turn on the slider on my phone to make a Signal call at home instead of being able to use my WiFi-only Pixel, which is a bit annoying from a privacy perspective. EDIT: I can also use my computer as a workaround, it's just a bit of a clunky solution.
How is the GPS? Also, can you install apps from F-Droid?
Yeah, F-Droid works. I decided to go with Obtainium. The GPS signal is good enough in my city. The maps app itself is serviceable. It's essentially a UI for OSM data.
I see. Then this looks like a phone I would want. Though the phones I usually use are around $150-200 so the price is kinda high for me. However if the replaceable battery is common, it might worth the price.
Which ones do you use?
Well, it's the same since I started using my first Android phone. Whatever the cheap option I can install a custom ROM. My last 3 phones were Google Nexus 5X, Lenovo K6 Power (normally wouldn't buy this but Nexus 5X died in 2 years), and Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 (current one and using it for less than 2 years).
This is worth around $100. How tf is it so expensive? The markup is nuts.

Should be fine, grab the apk from the site or get it from F-Droid. You'll have to install a browser or F-Droid first, but the Mudita Center app makes this trivial to get the APK on the device for install.
