I've been getting myself into 3D modeling for my need of using stuff in VR. Buying props and models from gumroad and booth are just too expansive.

Sure, I can learn blender. And I did. But that got me thinking. Why aren't there open or copyleft 3D models? It feels like the exact same fork-modify-use pattern that pushed open source to the main stream. However almost everything in 3D modeling is paid or with restrictive license.

Why? Why didn't the same libre licensing spread?

(I'll release my stuff in LGPL when I feel they are ready. In case people think I just want free art)
