Tried to log in and my account is permanently suspended. I don't do anything close to breaking terms of service and have no clue why this is happening. Found this article and apparently it's not just me. Fingers crossed we get a solution quickly.

Got that yesterday after playing No Man Sky, i had 0 interactions with people, uploaded only given default names of animals to earn nanites, and got perma suspended after exiting.

I got no email declaring why, and till now have not found an contact email.

I had psn plus for like a day, finally decided to have some multiplayer time.

F this crap really.

More reason to avoid digital console purchases.

[–] xkforce@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (4 children)

So all modern games on all modern consoles.

[–] mateomaui@reddthat.com 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You can still get disc versions of the PS5 and most recent Xbox, and the Switch has cartridge options for most games worth a damn so idk wtf you’re talking about.

I don’t consider the steamdeck a console. There are multiple options to install there anyway.

[–] skele_tron@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

But those disc games still need to check validity with psn or not?

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

No, disc games can be played offline, the main issue is that without PSN you will be stuck in the unplayable buggy mess that most current games are on release day.

[–] Skyline969@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never mind the fact that most, if not all, physical games these days require a download of some sort to fully function. Sometimes even to play the game at all.

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

Case in point, there's a new game on that list. I don't understand what's the point of releasing physical copies in this case.

[–] skele_tron@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And already installed digital releases will not work?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not if you get locked out of your PSN account, no.

[–] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That would depend on how you notice it. If by sheer luck you notice through something like the Playstation app on your phone and make sure you turn the console on offline they will still work.

[–] skele_tron@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Havent had the luck, i saw it as i finished no mans sky.

Getting more old and progressing to being a casuall gamer so much that some titles im enjoying just now, i see that ill either sell the ps5 for a pc or steam deck. I guess this was my lesson.

[–] mateomaui@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Honestly don’t know. I’m still on the PS3 which could download updates for disc games without being logged into anywhere. If that’s an issue now, it’s a reason to avoid Sony consoles altogether. I skipped the PS4 and have been waiting for enough worthy PS5-only titles to come out before purchasing, but if that’s a problem now then I’ll just stay out of that mess.

edit: wouldn’t be missing much, Ghost of Tsushima is the only title I can think of that I’m interested in that hasn’t made its way over to PC or planned to.

edit2: nvm, apparently there is a planned date of 2024-2025, I can wait

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Nope. A physical purchase, even one that has day 1 downloads, can still be installed fresh under a new account.

Digital purchases not so much.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

See, now you're getting it

[–] Carnelian@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I spent a generation buying digital games and I kind of regret it. I love looking at my shelf of old games, even if I no longer have the means to play them. It’s a delight to look at them and reminisce—not just about the games, but also about my life and friends from the days when I played them.

Anyway I’ve already permanently lost access to many games as online stores have closed down. I shudder to confront the possibility of Steam not being around forever. But even owning the disc is no guarantee of playability these days. I’ve heard of a few games now whose disc/cart only partially contain the files and you absolutely need to download the rest of the game to play it. I greatly fear that in the future we will look back and find that much of this era was simply not preserved.

[–] mateomaui@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Pirates are always on the preservation case.

That thing about only part of the game being on the disc isn’t surprising in a world of day 1 patches that are sometimes as big or larger than the original game download, but that’s still some BS. It’s one of the reasons I keep holding out for PC versions. I have a huge Steam library, but I still download the cracked versions with all updates and if Steam ever shuts down, or a game gets delisted or made inaccessible, that version will still work.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Some who have received these suspensions are understandably distraught, as they may have spent a lot of money on digital PlayStation games that they no longer have access to."

Another reminder to buy physical, not digital...

[–] Vlyn@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That only matters for singleplayer games. If it's multiplayer then your physical copy usually has a key and an associated account which can get banned. Good luck with that.

And there is no need to buy physical, just buy from https://gog.com and backup your installers. Better than physical media.

[–] echo64@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is the playstation subreddit. I don't believe that playstation game copies have any such key, it would totally kill the efficiencies of disk production.

[–] Vlyn@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 year ago

Ah, didn't notice the community. It makes more sense for consoles, true.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hmm, I haven't logged into my PSN account in forever, maybe I should now so it can get banned and I can join the future class action lmfao

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Here's 2 weeks of ps+ and a "we're sorry" email, take it or leave it.

The ps+ requires a card on file. Suckers.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I mean, I got $10 out of that OtherOS class action, a free lunch is a free lunch lmfao

[–] LemmyIsFantastic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I got $300 from other OS. You missed the boat or something.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh I know lol I don't remember what it was I was missing, but I needed something to get the higher payouts. I think it was evidence of me actually using the feature and the $10 tier just needed evidence of burned discs or some shit

[–] Gamers_Mate@kbin.social 15 points 1 year ago

This could be a bug but the silence from Sony could mean it is a hack or they have no idea what is causing it either. A simple we are investigating what is going on would help ease a lot of stress.

I haven't been banned yet but I am going to avoid logging in from now on till we know why this is happening.

[–] alucard@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 year ago

Mine was permanently suspended some time in the last 24 hours too. Hoping they have a solution. After reading the article it reminded me of the whole LulzSec thing…

[–] aelwero@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The silence suggests something that won't be popular... Gonna guess logins at different goes or maybe use of vpns or ad blockers or something.

[–] callouscomic@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Sony is garbage? I'm shocked!
