Back in the day, we tried to get Reddit unblocked in our country, which blocks porn websites. No amount of arguments can convince the government agency in charge of the block list that Reddit is not a porn site. They probably got tired of us pestering them and send back a whole bunch of screenshots of porns in Reddit to justify the block.
I guess Reddit is a porn site.

Seriously though, what government is not letting you slap the salami in this day and age?
They did blur the screenshots though, but yeah, pretty much flexing that they can browse anything without restriction in their office, lmao.
It's Indonesia btw. That reminds me, I do have a concern about Lemmy instances that use .id TLD (e.g. lemdro.id). It's Indonesian TLD, so it might subject to Indonesian law, so they'll might run into trouble if they federate with porns communities. Might be a similar situation where websites with .ly TLD got into trouble with Libyan government back then.
That's the goal of all censors - undisputed authority. You can't argue with what you can't see.

That's hilarious. Just picturing the Australian federal police raiding poor neckbeards and NEETs to confiscate their hentai stash. Heaven forbid horny cartoons be allowed to corrupt the youth lol.
So, hentai (really any anime) doesn't appeal to me personally, but why in the hell would it be banned?
Uneducated guess: the preponderance of subjects which appear to be underage (despite the fact that they are indeed a 1000 year old demon)

In my 10+ years of using Reddit never once did I visit a NSFW sub. It's always been a forum for sharing information for me.
Every now and then there were a couple I would check in on.
But I figured why bother when there are dedicated sites just for porn.
With a good app and a dedicated account it was possible to create a curated selection that was easy to 'browse' one handed.

I think Ian Malcom's quote "porn will find a way" helps alleviate that. Porn has always been at the forefront of new tech. I think this will be that way too but hopefully we have responsible admins who help to make it only true if you look for it.

You need to be careful with all the subs marking themselves as NSFW in protest. I found myself slapping the salami over /r/DIY by mistake.

Reddit had terrible performance and was just lame. I am so glad they fell apart and brought me to Lemmy. It blows it away.
Whilst developing sync I've been constantly surprised how goddamn fast Lemmy is.
