A dedicated more focused app would be better.

[–] 5714@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why?

I like the concept of NewPipe combining several content providers.

To me, NewPipe's Peertube would be better with a search function that can select any server as base.

Nothing versus newpipe but PeerTube doesn't need to support proprietary platforms, also a dedicated app would probably be better to implement particular peertube's features.

Same it works well.

I use Tubular which integrates Sponsor Block and comment replies.

[–] Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Does Tubular support SponsorBlock for PeerTube videos?

you can't expect it to gain any traction without one.

[–] Chozo@fedia.io 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It won't gain traction until there's content on it people actually want to watch. The best app developer in world could make a Peertube app tomorrow, and it wouldn't mean anything to the 99.999% of people who aren't interested in watching 2-hour seminars about Linux kernel.

It kind of goes both ways too, doesn't it? Like, the consumers aren't going to flock to the alternative platform without good content creators already there, and the content creators usually want to stay on whatever platform will get them the most views.

Fuck google.

It has to exist, it's crucial... People won't come to your platform if theres no mobile app...

There needs to be one for iOS too.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have a feeling it's insanely hard to approve an app like that in the iOS App Store.

But maybe someone proves me wrong...

Is Apple not going to allow sideloading in the EU soon?

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The apps still have to be approved by Apple, and Apple still gets a cut. It's not actual sideloading, and it's all done through Apple-approved third party app stores.

You can't just download an IPA file and install it.

I never found a winner when I looked into it years ago.

I think OP may have a similar sentiment -- what do you guys think? Which ones are #1 ?

[–] Wiz@midwest.social 12 points 1 year ago

Fedilab already works as a PeerTube app. A good one!
