RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Sometimes if I type “LOL”, but I didn’t laugh out loud, I’ll do a quiet little chuckle so I’m not technically a liar.

I can’t blow bubbles in bubblegum beyond a sad little pea sized thing.

I can’t snap my fingers either.

I think The Last Jedi is the fourth best Star Wars film, behind only the original trilogy.

One time I pooped in a urinal at school as a joke

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

This is a very different magnitude of confession from OP

[–] dogsnest@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Can confirm the poop was huge.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The logistics of this confound me more than the childish decision-making.

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

If I recall correctly, the technique was hover & blast, then waddle to a stall to wipe. I was in 4th grade or something, last century.

Finger snapping is misleading. The sound does not come from your fingers moving against each other but from your middle finger hitting the meaty base of your thumb and ring finger.

Once I knew that it was much easier to snap my fingers. Hopefully that helps you too!

[–] QualifiedKitten@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

But then why does it sound so different if I take my thumb out of the motion and just slap the same spot with my finger?

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Your thumb provides the resistance necessary for your finger to hit at the speed that it does.

[–] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 1 points 11 months ago

Your muscles ram up in strength over time. By pushing against your thumb, your finger muscle has built up the strength to push your finger at the higher speed needed.

while in retrospect, I did. Can you make two pea-sized bubbles at once? Thought long and hard on this answer

[–] qeqpep@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

I can’t blow bubbles in bubblegum

Using proper bubblegum or was it chewing gum? I've seen people make that mistake before. Including in an episode of an internationally popular TV show.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Bubblegum. 😞

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

Taskmaster is such a good show. I discovered it earlier this year and it's a great show to binge.

[–] qeqpep@lemm.ee 5 points 11 months ago

I chuckle and grin every time I type, but don't say lol.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Of the main sequence films, I agree about The Last Jedi. But Rogue One is better. By rather a lot.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Rogue One is an okay war movie in Star Wars cosplay. It's overrated, IMHO, though it's better than the prequels or TROS.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 3 points 11 months ago

I've had hemorrhoids I enjoyed more than TRoS. That might be the most disappointing movie I've ever seen in my life. I will not talk shit about anything else in Star Wars, though I can critique it will love, but that movie I despise.

I have terrible way finding skills. After 2.5 years of working in the same building for 1 week of every month I still get lost in there if I veer off my established route. I could get lost walking out of a paper bag.

[–] inconspicuouscolon@lemy.lol 3 points 11 months ago

Tgat lol thing is pretty cute, I might steal it >:)

[–] MacedWindow@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars, Last Jedi is my least favorite.

I can only snap with my right hand, I had to practice for weeks as a kid to get it.

90% of the time I type lol I go back and delete it because I don't want to be a liar.
