A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted, clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts: 1

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
    • If you feel strongly that you want politics back, please volunteer as a mod.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Don't forget to menorewind when you're done. It's the right thing to do.

It's latin. Pause literally means stop in latin.

[–] Alk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What's the meno mean in Latin?

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

In this case, apparently, month. As in, period

Maybe it's actually spelled menopaws because men can't keep their paws off us.

Or they named it after the Irish doctor who documented it, Men O'Pause.

This is fake news, he stole the research from Jane Menopause who goes uncredited to this day

Pretty sure it was named after the French village Mini-Opuasé where it was discovered in the 1800's.

It's a portmanteau of "Minnow Palls," because doctors used to believe it was caused by a cloud of small fish surrounding those experiencing it.

No, it pretty much stops at that age 😂

It's called Menopause because your periods will return in hell.

[–] lunarul@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

The board of directors decided that indefinite pause sounds better than stop

[–] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 14 points 4 months ago

And vasectomy should instead be called misterectomy.

[–] mumblerfish@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Isn't there hormonal treatments that puts you in menopause, and then there is a menoresume if you end the treatment?
