Vin Diesel was actually supposed to die, but a machine gun jammed and the ensuing awkward conversation with the director led to Vin getting a feature role in exchange for his silence about Spielberg's method directing. He parlayed that little incident into a ten film series about cars or some dumb shit.

While you are correct that suffering is a better metric, there would be many in our society that would gravitate towards higher rated suffering items in the same way they want real fur coats and real leather in their Ferraris. That would backfire quickly.

I'm about to play the Bioshock trilogy for the first time in over a decade. Never played 2 and 3, only got about halfway through 1 when it came out. I'm also about 75% through Super Metroid, which I never beat as a kid. I know that's outside of the 1-2 year window, but I love older games. Scored the Bioshock trilogy for like 15 bucks too, can't beat that.
