We knew this was coming, but I wonder at what point it will be practical. Yes, image generation is a fascinating approach. We can see super realistic scenes generated by A.I.—with no traditional 3-D rendering necessary. It just generates what it thinks it’s supposed to. What your human eye should see.

I do think this is likely the near-future of basically anything artificial. But…

Compare to a team of developers who design a game, its characters, its story, and its environment. The money, time, and effort. Compare that to what it would cost to develop a game with A.I., the overall processing power and cost.

At this very moment in time, of course, whatever comes out of it will be crappy and weird. It would be more expensive overall. However, we can’t really expect it would stay that way.

A.I. will absolutely be the future of gaming and virtual reality. There is no stopping it or beating it that I can see. I don’t yet know how to feel about that.

We used to think that they nap most of the day because we couldn’t see what lions did at night. With new camera technology, we can now. Male lions are, maybe, a little more badass than we thought. Their job is basically to fight other lions and hyenas and shit and patrol their territory. They do this at night. Lionesses are still super badass and maybe even more badass than we originally thought, too. I guess what I’m saying is that lions are just badass. The difference is that lions are social creatures while, as far as we can tell, tigers are more solitary, so there’s a comparison issue there. Male lions do, at least, do a bit more for the pride aside from sleeping and fucking, like some of the old documentaries I remember made it look like. That’s just how they are during the day, but I mean, they’re cats. They do a lot of shit a night we didn’t really have a good handle on until recently. Male lions are big and muscly and powerful not for no reason. They have to have that in case something else wants to fuck around with their pride and find out. The lionesses are the providers, the male lions are the protectors that stay at home and protect the territory. We like to try to fit things into our own ways of understanding, but they just do it different. It’s how they evolved to survive.

Eukaryotes likely evolved during The Great Oxidation Event which saw oxygen levels rise to levels that were toxic to the Cyanobacteria (which use photosynthesis). We evolved to save them!

Is it not just a new way of distinguishing them from the round (circle) ones?

My school had a wreck towed on campus to look at, but no skit. No, that was too tame. They held periods during which they had a speaker come and show us gorey slides of the results of car wrecks. You could opt out of it of course, but most attended and traumatized ourselves. It sounds fake, and now I’m wondering if I am relaying a false memory about it or not. Did this happen to anybody else?

I used to be Christian. Reading it again later as an adult, my overall takeaway of the stories was that there was this guy with divine knowledge walking around constantly being disappointed with the state of humanity and a hair up his ass about it. I suppose it wouldn’t be any different today, were the same entity to come back, for some fucking reason.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

The taking/giving/reaching out term differences between Indian dialect and American English caused me some confusion on one of my calls. They kept saying they were trying to “take RDP from” server A to server B. I interpreted that as connecting from A to B, since they used the word “from.”

It took a bit, but I eventually realized that there seemed to be to be a fundamental difference in the way these things are thought about.

Americans, we always are reaching toward, pointing to, connecting to, or connecting something from HERE to THERE, like we’re shooting a gun or drawing a line. That is not how these Indian guys were looking at it.

If you are “taking RDP from” server A to server B, then that means you are on server B trying to connect to server A. It’s more like if you were to imagine reaching out with your hand and grabbing something toward you.

Document document document. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to put together something that further demonstrates the need to eliminate entire lines of laptops and replace them with something that will last. Think hardware repair costs, maintenance man hours and productivity, and what finally nailed the coffin for my teams, the dropping of Windows 10 and Windows 11 support. Windows 11 is going to require laptops have certain hardware features for full support. Microsoft’s planned obsolescence may actually come in handy for you. You might still have to go with something cheaper than Thinkpads, but maybe you could get more people upgraded. The CEO may just not know what is “critical” yet.

It’s gotten worse, however, I think the perception is compounded by how expensive it is now and also just eating better as I get older. Now that I know how to cook real, delicious food, fast food just seems so much grosser than it used to. It’s a little worse compared to 10 years ago, but much worse compared to the 80’s and early 90’s, depending on the chain. For example, Taco Bell was a LOT better back in the 80’s. You were more likely spend a bunch of time on the toilet later, but hey, give a little take a little.

Becoming a default to have it installed in Windows. On a personal machine, it’s easy to fix. In our work environment, we just made sure it’s on the image by default. You can also circumvent a windows store block by installing appx stuff in Powershell.

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.
