I doubt it. The Saudi-Arabian monarchy doesn't invest in things because they want to make money. They do it for power, image, and influence in the world. They just threw a lot of money into the E-sports world cup in Riyadh. I think they're buying what's needed to make Saudi-Arabia a gaming hub. They're doing the same thing with sports and racing and all sorts of entertainment. For that reason, I doubt they'll strip EA for parts. All of the competitive games that EA makes will suddenly have tons of prize money and developer-backing for competition and E-sports. And the final big event will always be in SA.

Co-op/freelance > small business > large single-owner business > publicly traded business > private equity business.

The hordes of faceless shareholders is mostly regular people's retirement accounts. It's still a net-negative for society, but now it's not even helping someone retire comfortably. With Saudi Arabia involved, that means it's also going to be laundering the image of a monarchy.

A few years ago everyone was talking about how crown prince Bin Salman ordered the brutal execution and dismemberment of a journalist. Now the E-sports world cup is in Riyadh.

I don't see them producing enough quantity in the next few years to run into demand issues.

I think you might be right. It seems like they're trying to start pretty small and niche with low volumes.

I don't think the author is complaining that a Slate truck isn't for them. They're concerned that Slate overestimated the demand and the brand won't get off the ground. I kinda hope they succeed but I have similar concerns. I suspect they might announce a new model in like a year that has 4 doors and factory infotainment.

I don't like trucks; they're far too big for city use.

The Slate truck is quite a bit shorter than a Corolla. It's a very small vehicle.

From what I've seen the neighborhood seems to be densely packed expensive apartments and townhomes that were rapidly built en masse, and then in the center there's a grassy field and some breweries and restaurants and stuff. So possibly some very American designs going on there.

I used to live in one of these kind of complexes. It was even next to a river with a nice little 2 mile trail along it. At first I thought it would be cool to live within a short walk of things. There was a convenience store that was quite nice. However, the owner told me that the complex told them they couldn't sell nicotine products "to keep homeless out". That shouldve been a red flag. Then the convenience store closed in favor of a fancy coffee shop. Then a fancy German restaurant with outdoor seating. Suddenly I felt like I lived in an outdoor mall. The site for that apartment complex was previously used for the states death row so I guess it's still an improvement from that.

If public transit was valued by the local government, the city would be built in a way to make that work ok. If cars are valued, the city is built to be driven in.

I think the singer doesn't count either since that's someone's name which could be anything in any language. Also the navy seal is named after the animal. It's 2 frames. "Seal" the animal and "seal" the keep stuff in/out

[–] JillyB@beehaw.org 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They're all seals. The bad part is that this is really only 2 different meanings. The soldier is a navy seal but that's just named after the animal. The top middle is a seal to keep oil in a machine. The concept of sealing something applies to the the oil seal, the deck sealant, and the wax seal.

It wouldn't be queer owned if it was publicly traded. It would be owned by shareholders.

This channel normally posts board meetings and short progress updates on specific sections of the project in a pretty dry way. This is the first time I've seen them lean into a more engaging method of getting the word out.

I find it disgusting that they feel the need to appeal to their importance for economic activity. Safety should be a worthy enough goal to maintain such a lightweight organization. Trump says he wants to bring industry back to America. With moves like this, it's clear the actual intent is to keep workers subservient and expendable.

I want to make the switch but I want to test run first before fully committing. My PC has an M.2 SSD. I was thinking I could buy another one, swap them out and put Linux on that. In an emergency, I can swap the SSD back. Does this seem like a viable/sensible path toward Linux? I don't really have too many files on my PC that I care about. I don't want to dual boot. I did that on a laptop back in the day and it was annoying.

Game starts at 4:05. He entirely relies on game audio to play the game. Street Fighter 6 has good accessibility options that he uses to help understand the game state.

On the Beehaw local page, it's filled with posts from the Socialism community. On my subscriptions page, it's filled with posts from a 196 community. I'm glad Lemmy is getting communities that are gaining traction, but I don't want my feeds dominated by a few communities. I'm not sure if this is a Lemmy issue, a Beehaw issue, or a Thunder issue. Anybody have any ideas?
