Whatcha all been playing?

I finally beat Indiana Jones. Very solid game. Perhaps a bit too long and has some noticeable jank. But I really liked it overall

Also got to play the Elden Ring Nightrein network test. Damn, that game is super super fun. I'm really excited to play the full release!

Don’t have a whole lot to say in this intro paragraph. If you enjoy these, do a blog post with your own game and art recommendations. If you don’t have a blog, consider starting a free one on neocities or bear blog. I also have start putting more effort into my recommendation list on Itch.io if you want more recommendations. Consider starting one of those too. I’ve heard they’re way cooler and sexier than Steam Curator pages. I like these ones by Meagan and WildWeasel. And leave nice comments on things you like! Anyway, as Geoff Keighley always says, “Now more than ever, video games.”

This has been evident for anyone following the gaming industry, but now Phil Spencer basically admits it. Good for them, actually.

  • GameStop is hoping somebody will buy its Canadian and French operations.
  • This amounts to over 500 physical stores across both nations.
  • The company’s CEO decried “Liberalism, Socialism, Progressivism, Wokeness and DEI” within his firm while shopping for a buyer.

According to SD1One’s video (not the one I linked), driving mechanics are simplified (no collision, winch only on scout vehicles, no fuel).

UI looks pretty bad. I hope they’ll be changing a lot of this stuff.

Feels great to have a game that represents Finnish urban culture from the 90s with promises to combine that vibe with Kaurismäki and Tarantino. However the character models could be more livelier. And that music sounds so AI-generated, hopefully the final game doesn't use it.

Today I undervolted my brother's amd rx 6950xt by 120mv ( at 125mv a game we tested would crash at 100% usage and max power draw ).

Also made his fan curve more agressive cause by default it never wen't over 55% fan speed which is just stupid.

This in total lowered his temps across in mist games from average 80C to 55-60C and lowered power draw on average by 20W.

It also allowed him to play supraland at max settings with gpu not going over 70C instead of lowest setting 80C on average.

So yeah, if you never tried or bothered with undervolting try it and post your results. Or if you did it before post your story and results.

I've been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 again recently and have been thoroughly enjoying it, but this one thing has always bugged be about this game and Rockstar games in general, and that's how restrictive they are with their mission design. You decide to get off your horse too early when riding to an objective, mission failure. You stand outside a building too long while your friends go inside, mission failure. The list goes on, but you get the point. If you go even slightly outside the railings of the amusement park ride Rockstar has setup, instant mission failure.

This whole issue is made even worse by how in contrast the missions are with the open world. The open world is a sandbox where you can handle situations how ever you want. It feels like a living, breathing world where NPCs will react to your actions. It almost feels like there were two entirely separate teams working on the open world and missions, who aren't coordinating. Given how big Rockstar is that could absolutely be the case.

I've also been playing Kingdom Come Deliverance II and that game is in a lot of ways quite similar to RDR2 with it's set protagonist, realism, and open world sandbox. The flexibility of how you can handle quests in that game really highlights the shortcomings of RDR2. I know KCDII is an RPG and focuses more on player dialogue choices, but the existence of the honor system demonstrates how Rockstar is willing to let player actions dictate the story and world, so they could at least let some of that bleed into the missions. Maybe sprinkle a few high and low honor choices into missions, and don't fail the mission if you do something slightly wrong. Have the world react to the player not doing what you want. Have your friends call after you if you're lagging behind or something. I'm pretty sure that already happens in the game at some point.

Thank you for listening to my rant. This is just something I've been meaning to put into words for awhile.

"Single-player games with plenty of weapons to upgrade, skills to gain, and currencies to spend are perhaps the archetypal iteration of this phenomenon, but almost all contemporary games contain some mimetic elements of work and market exchange. They don’t offer fantasies of escape, of imaginative play for its own sake; they offer a fantasy of rules—a rationality otherwise missing from the contemporary wage labor process. Vicky Osterweil has called this type of game a “utopian work simulator”; it doles out rewards at predictable intervals in exchange for our disciplined effort. These rewards can make the game easier, allow us to purchase in-game adornments, signal our achievements to others, and progress in a logical and satisfying trajectory toward an achievable goal. Games remain a form of diversion, but what they divert us from is not our labor, but our disappointment with its volatility, its arbitrariness, its cruelty and unfairness."

so if Mewt made up Ivalice does that mean that Ramza's whole story... is a footnote in history for a world that only existed as background for a bunch of kids who can barely play snowballs??? those kids made up Cúchulainn the Tainted King because nobody splained about death properly to Mewt who is like 9???? I can't BELIEVE this I don't have a single Tactic for this

NO-SKIN is a turn-based roguelite survival horror with gruesome pixel art and obscure story. I've been playing the free beta some time ago and this game rocks!

For me, anything 25 FPS or higher is 100% fine and I'll be enjoying my time. I never play competitive online shooter games ever, though. All single player ones like GOW and the likes. I game on a 60 Hz 4k monitor. GPU is AMD RX 6600 alongside Ryzen 7 5700G and 32GB RAM. My games are set to meduim most of the time at 4k. Demanding titles are on low. Surprisingly, GOW and GOW Ragnarok are both set to ultra and I still get around 40ish FPS.

Someone remaked Super Mario World in 3D in Unreal Engine 5 (no realistic graphics). The video explains what he did and its super interesting and entertaining to watch. However, there is nothing playable right now. And even if there was one, Nintendo would be fast to remove it. I hope he will publish a finished work as Open Source project, so it will live on forever.

The blogger demonstrated how much FPS the RTX 5090 graphics card can deliver in the game Cyberpunk 2077. With and without DLSS, in 4K and at different settings.

The game was launched in 2019 so instead of fixing the bug they just pulled it from the store. Refunds only for who bought the DLC up to ~~3 weeks~~ 1 year ago. Sucks to be a paying user.

Edit: LOL I thought it was still 2024
