I don't think so, but I don't know for certain if the Windows license will check for hardware in a SecureBoot fashion. I linked my license with a MS account to facilitate easy upgrades and reinstalls.

Your license shouldn't care what hardware is installed, though, and if you're upgrading from AMD to AMD, Windows should be able to handle that virtually seamlessly. The only thing you want to make sure of is that your BIOS version supports whatever processor you choose.

Integrated graphics is mainly as a backup plan for when discrete GPU conks off.

The 5700G is decent overall, using my old 5600G as comparison. It's an excellent option for integrated graphics gaming, but their underlying architecture borrows chips from the 3000 series and adds some modern extras. It can't support PCIe4, so you'll be hard limited by that lack of support, should you upgrade your motherboard up a generation in the future.

However, since your current one doesn't have PCIe4 anyway, perhaps the 5700G could be a good option until you upgrade the motherboard (at which point, you should probably move on from AM4/Zen3 anyway).

Tbh, people like him—the ones that thought racism and other bigotry were valid comedy tools—only helped normalize that stuff today. I lay part of the blame, for the rise of the hyper-masculine shock culture that's currently worming its way through various societies and governments, at his and his collaborators' feet.

So whether anyone thinks he's a Nazi currently, in the past, or was/is just a stupid idiot, he's still culpable for using his platform to help normalize hate. And in my mind, unless he's used his platform to counter the bigotry he helped propagate, he'll always be a bastard for it.

It depends what it is you expect out of it, from what I've understood from others. If you want touch to just be a replacement for a mouse, it will be fine. If you expect multitouch to work like most tablets or phones, you'll be disappointed.

Feel free to refute that with your own experiences. I'm only speaking from second hand.

If you're using Debian, do you really need to upgrade?

h/j

But seriously anything with an AMD CPU/GPU in it and an Intel wireless card is probably all you'll need to be mindful of, provided it fits in your budget.

Also, don't worry about touch-capable screens or HDR. The support for those is still a work in progress, and you'll likely have a bad time with them if you're using Debian.

But what if I call it an "eh-BIK-ee?" Would they like that more?

Do you have any links to the alleged bad history? I couldn't find anything, partly because the recent political theatre makes it hard to be informed.

You sure you're not confusing TP-Link with D-Link? The latter has been the common attack surface I'm familiar with, and the former has been a staple for enthusiasts and as a tool for pentesters.

This is why it's vital to get privacy tools now, while it's easy and legal.

Was reading this article, and it got me thinking. There's lots of people who are happy to complain at length, but what if we made it a point to pick a particular day each year to express our collective gratitude for the work people do for FOSS?

Whether in the form of donations or kind words (maybe even joining a project), it might be something that helps keep people going on the things they love but for which they don't get a lot of appreciation.

Curious to hear y'all's thoughts.

Edit: Someone mentioned I Love Free Software Day, which is cool that it exists. I like the idea behind it, but I'm hesitant to piggyback upon a well-known holiday, for fear of being wholly overshadowed (Valentine's Day is already stressful enough for some people).

A brilliant, introspective summary of how single-issue voting got us here and how it won't save anyone.

The system sucks, but please, be pragmatic. Vote for Harris, hold the Dems accountable, and donate to STAR and Ranked Choice Voting initiatives in your area to avoid this dilemma in the future.

Twenty years ago, I made a choice that left the world a distorted echo of what it could be.

Twenty years from now, you too will reap what you sow.

Meanwhile...

At a campaign event over the weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, hundreds of Allred’s supporters broke out in raucous applause when he vowed to protect a woman’s right to an abortion. “When I’m in the Senate, we’re going to restore Roe v. Wade,” Allred said.

Please vote, y'all. There's more at stake than just a presidency.

State constitutional rights to abortion are on the ballot in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Nevada, and South Dakota.

Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Wisconsin have initiatives on the ballot to ban noncitizens from voting. It's already illegal, but the initiatives will probably be used to harass and disenfranchise minorities and activists, if they pass.

Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, D.C., Alaska, and Missouri will vote to adopt or prohibit ranked choice voting.

Alaska, California, Massachusetts, and Missouri will vote to adopt a $15-18 minimum wage.

And so on. Ballotpedia has a complete list.

I'm saving up to get a 5700X3D around Christmas, upgrading from a 5600G, but I want to make sure I prepare properly before I do the swap.

The RAM I bought couldn't match the C18 @ 4000 M/Ts advertised and still remain stable, but I managed to manually overclock to C16 @ 3666. Should I drop to JDEC specs before I upgrade, or is it a non-issue?

I've been thinking about getting a couple of Yubikeys for a partner and myself, but we share certain accounts. While I would love to have the Yubikey 5 that can store TOTP, that seems like it could be problematic for shared accounts.

Would using the cheaper Yubico Security Keys to unlock Bitwarden Premium vaults, that use a Shared Organization, be a better/more sane option than trying to sync up TOTP secrets every time a new shared account gets added? Any other critiques or suggestions?

So, a couple years ago, somebody published the 2017 free desktop client of SketchUp on the chocolatey repos, and I managed to snag it before it got taken down. I use it primarily to make woodworking plans.

I'm wrapping up my transition plan to Linux, but I'm not really up to date on SketchUp alternatives. The only ones I know of are Blender (afaik more for animation and 3D printing) and FreeCAD (CAD seems like overkill, since I'm just doing simple cuts and joinery).

Are there good Linux/FOSS alternatives to SketchUp that have similar features, or is the web client the only reasonable option?

This isn't a joke, though it almost seems like one. It uses Llama 3.1, and supposedly the conversation data stays on the device and gets forgotten over time (through what the founder calls a rolling "context window").

The implementation is interesting, and you can see the founder talking about earlier prototypes and project goals in interviews from several months ago.

iOS only, for now.

Edit: Apparently, you can build your own for around $50 that runs on ChatGPT instead of Llama. I'm sure you could also figure out how to switch it to the LLM of your choice.
