I can't access that instance, probably because my instance defederated from them, and I trust them there's a good reason why. Please do not, in that case.

But if you want to hear another great song by Holly - here you go:

I won't include the lyrics here because they might trigger.

But yeah, let's say I'm a survivor and for the past 3 years I am not leaving my house unarmed.

They are soooo gooood! The drummers - I have to say that, of course, but Holly Martin, one of the singers of Archive? FUUUCK!!! :D

Add anyone you please, for heaven's sake, I'm not famous at all, I kept my name out of every band I ever played with just so people can't stalk me online (and I mean you, HR and recruiters!). I always played under a fake made up name when releasing anything officially. ^^

EDIT: How the fuck did I forget to include THE MOST IMPORTANT woman in drumming history??? Shame on me!

Dorothea Taylor (she's been a badass teacher for decades) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wkCsnFRuwg

EDIT 2: This always warms my heart - she can play Travis fucking Barker againt the wall if she wants to. Lol. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTu09li_4Fo

Ahoi there. Before we take a dive into music I really dig, I probably should say a few words here. I grew up listening to music nonstop. I smuggled myself backstage to an industrial metal band at the age of 13 - about a hundred miles away from home (that's a fun story for another time... ^^). My musical background goes like this:

Joined my first band at the age of 15 (I'm 38 now), learnt everything about electronic music from my bandmate including programming, playing keyboard / synths, first huge live gig at the age of 17 being the support band at a sold out concert of another band. I kept doing that for a couple of years until my hearing went to shit after playing a concert (of course I did not wear ear protection, because I was feeling young and invincible, who needs that stuff anyway? Old people?)...

I regained some of my hearing over time, but it's still not great. I kept listening to boatloads of music everyday since, went to live gigs whenever I could. I started drumming not too long ago because I can still vibe to it and understand it. The nuances of electronic music? Long gone and in the shitter. But beating stuff with sticks? Hell yes.

I wanted to comment in the other thread about trans musicians more, but I only know 2 other unknown bands from London with trans people playing, and for the life of me, I do not remember the bands' names... Mea culpa!

So, let's get started on cis ladies being awesome as fuck doing music, shall we?

First: Singers / songwriters

K.Flay - Blood in the cut (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2WcOdz96ko) She gives me the chills! Every now and then she jams with Grandson (Peaches is amazing, but check out the good lad Grandson as well, he's such an awesome dude and deserves more credit).

Archive - Hatchet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnwABVxcl3s) This lass can SING! The lyrics are gut wrenching.

Fever Ray - If I had a heart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBAzlNJonO8) Swedish artist, her song was used for the intro of the tele show Vikings.

Now - and this makes me giggle since I'm a drummer these days:

Jess Bowen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSX7D-dJRBo) A pop drummer, doesn't know Rage against the machine, fucking nails it on the first take.

Domino Santantonio (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeuskcJyoBQ) Another pop drummer, doesn't own a double kick pedal, fucking kills Slipknot anyway.

I hope you enjoy that quick list of awesome ladies doing music. There are so many more, but these were the ones coming to mind in a 2 minutes brainstorming process.

Have an amazing day, y'all! :)

I love you, Goober!

Oh my gosh, that is so messed up, did not know that. But yeah, thinking about it now, it makes a lot of sense.

Kennt eigentlich irgendjemand hier das tollste Buch von Douglas Adams? Last chance to see?

So, long story short: I've been a musician for pretty much all my life. After a massive hearing loss, I picked up drums about a year ago and I've had so many great teachers myself. Now the local music school asked me if I could teach drums to their kids. They lost their former teacher due to old age.

I have rarely dealt with children. Sure, I was a tutor for some when it comes down to languages, but teaching music? That is so new to me and I'm actually afraid.

I am all gauntles right now negotiating the deal here: I want espescially girls to learn a new intrument. They must be bored out of themselves just playing the flute, organ and piano.

So, my approach is probably this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL5oBbriJuQ

:D

Any hints or tips you can give me? Please?

I'm a 38 years old lesbian with basically no clue whatsoever when it comes down to dealing with kids... ^^

EDIT: I'm afraid the girls want me to play pop music on the drums, and I get easily bored by that.

So, last night I had to attend a wake. I don't know if it's only a European thing, my sisters overseas might have to google that one up just in case, but yeah, it was odd. At some point one of my best friends waltzed in with this HUGE guy, like 2 meters tall, and his tiny wife went along as well. My good friend apparently told them who I am, and the huge ass guy and his tiny wife immediately went FAN MODE:

Yoooo, your album from 2008 is in our cupboard!

I'm a shy person and being this overwhelmed with fans, that was very strange and scary to me at first. But we had a good run. Just talking about music nonstop.

To me, which I could laugh about, was the fact that I'm doing very, very different music these days, playing a different instrument, just doing my thing and yeah, I had to share phone numbers with them so I can share what I'm doing now.

A really, really weird, but fun night. Music nerds meeting another music nerd... :D

So, a bit of background about me. I play the drums for fun, used to be a professional musician in the past and basically quit after losing most of my hearing during a live gig with my former band back in 12/2008.

I only started drumming about 10 months ago, I became fairly good quick thanks to some amazing teachers, but only play in my rented session room 4 fun. That is my personal safe space and my version of self therapy.

There's no BS going on in there, just me, drums, a couch for naps, a laptop with webcam for my teachers and a mini fridge for cool drinks.

I suffer from Dysthymia and right now I'm going through a phase of so called double depression again thanks to new meds I couldn't deal with. My thoughts were getting darker and darker, which is almost impossible in the first place, and my energy levels went straight to zero.

Got a text message last night and I thought: 'Ughhh, what's it now? Who wants something from me?' while snug up in my bed.

Yeah, who was that? One of my amazing teachers from the States (I live in Europe) and he was like:

Yooo, haven't heard from you in like two weeks? You doing okay? You good? You haven't booked any new training sessions either.

Yeah, not doing so great right now. It is what it is. Can't say when I want to book a new session to be honest. Everything's fucked in my head right now.

How about you get your ass out of bed and jam with me? I don't want your money, I just want to play with you together, because I think you're awesome and I love your style. I'll never charge money from you ever again, that's a promise. I just want to play along with you, girl!

THAT was a huge compliment. A living music legend like him saying he likes my style?

So, I took my bicycle, hauled my arse over to my session room - which is about 25 minutes away in the middle of nowhere (I live in the countryside) and we just played for about 3 hours until we were both so exhausted, just laughing together, sharing stories and we kicked back a few cold ones via webcam.

That dude is so amazing and chill. And I want to thank him for getting me out of this very dark place last night.

Hi there. A friend of mine wants to get into Star Trek (finally, yay). She asked me which series would be a good start since she loves binge watching. I honestly couldn't say. My favourites are VOY, ENT S1/S2 & SNW, but I'm a big fan of all series and watched them so many times back to back (with the exception of DIS & PIC - only once and never again). So, instead I thought we could watch the top 3 episodes of each series and then she can pick one to start watching the entire thing. Let me hear your top 3 episodes of one or several series. Just keep in mind she doesn't know any of the lore yet. I'm really looking forward to see your takes.
