I just saw this reply now and wanted to tell you a bit of my experience as it doesn't sound too far off from my own!

I think that move will work out nicely. I've been on a 5800X3D + 6800XT for a while now and completely switched to Linux for pretty much all gaming and desktop use 18 months ago. My experience with arch based distros running KDE Plasma has been virtually flawless.

I decided now before the new AMD cards are coming out to get my hands on a RTX 4080 Super just to see how far Nvidia on Linux has come before I make a decision in March on what vendor to go with.

I can confidently say both Nvidia and AMD run my setup (1x 2160p @ 120hz, 1x 2160p @ 240hz, 1x 1440p @ 120hz) in KDE Plasma without any problems at all in desktop use. But modern DirectX12 games will perform slightly better on AMD for the time being until Nvidia does something about their drivers on Linux.

So no matter what direction you are looking in the future I think right now is a super good time to make the switch to Linux!

He tested 17 games. In all games running VKD3D the XTX outperforms the 4080 Super by about 10-20% per game as expected with Raster only. He tested one game running DXVK and one native game and they both favored the 4080 Super.

When enabling Ray Tracing there was a clear advantage for the 4080 Super with generally higher average FPS. A common symptom however with VKD3D is lower 1% and 0.1% lows on the 4080 Super. Even if the average FPS is higher.

Thought this was a pretty interesting video for high end Linux gaming

A bit unclear in the docs, but would it be possible to make a Discord not or webhook that automatically connects to Faridoon and makes a quote if certain criteria are met? Sometimes on my server if someone said something really stupid or funny in VC we type out the quote and ping them in a channel, would be really interesting if this could "generate" that post as a quote.

Love the idea and will be using it regardless!

Hmm, that is weird, I can't really help on that as I haven't really had any issues with it. Maybe see if there are any issues filed on github regarding the problem, and if you like it enough, maybe file an issue if you can imagine yourself using it!

Yeah that is a valid concern. I don't use it for critical stuff so I don't have to be as concerned but that is definitely something to be aware of!

I'm not 100% sure on the feature set, but Symphony (also available on f-droid) is a super nice local music player!

First thing I could think of is Automatisch. I use it for automations for one of my servers.

I run GrapheneOS without any Google Play Services. I don't want to be locked into any software and I selfhost all my backups except having encrypted backups in one cloud provider for very important things to keep them off-site.

Most of the things people generally would consider drawbacks like lack of google assistant, chrome, play store, youtube etc. I consider to be a positive thing. I am in mostly full control of permissions and I have a siloed work user when I do need to access Slack and other apps for company use.

Skinny Jeans forever. I can't imagine not having a few pairs at home. They are the most comfortable pants I own!
