Lmk if it doesn't work. I can try and give you some other tips that might work

[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

I stumbled on a reddit post that suggested the same thing and it did work for me. Thanks for the help!

I edited my post with the fix. Thanks for the help

I edited my post with the solution. There was a setting I had to enable globally and per game to enable dlss. Thanks for the help

All my steam games that support dlss work with it, but my games using the heroic games launcher don't even show the option for DLSS in the game menu. I tried researching it but didn't have too much luck with finding a solution. I found one post saying that proton uses dlss by default, I'm using proton experimental but it still doesn't show up.

Heroic launcher is nice but I have had such a hard time enabling features like dlss and mangohud on it.

I'm using Linux mint 22.1.

EDIT: I fixed the issue. There is an option in heroic called "auto install/update DXVK-NVAPI on prefix" I had to enable it in the global settings and on the specific game. DLSS works now with frame gen.

I still have yet to get mangohud working with heroic tho

EDIT 2: I got mangohud to work with heroic. I had to use version 23.08

I have an RTX 4070 ti super and it works great. But I use proprietary drivers.

What I don't understand is how I could be throttling on temps. I've been watching them and the temps don't go above 60c for either GPU or CPU. And the other thing is, it will say I'm throttling as soon as the game loads when the temps are in the 50s. I have also been using a different program to track temps and the most I've seen CPU temps is 79c from loading shaders.

Edit: looking at the config file for mango hud, it says : display GPU throttling status based on power, current, temp or "other". It seems to me that, this popup appears if you have any 1 of those conditions.

Yes, I disable vsync for testing. I haven't looked up too many benchmarks. I've been just watching the core clocks, temps and overall fps stability to determine if the performance is as it should be. I came across a reddit post saying that throttling in mangohud means that you're using the most out of the PC parts and that's what you want. So I'm going to not worry about it lol

Nvtop showed everything normal. The GPU power was below the TDP.

I don't think so. I booted up a 2d side scroller game with the GPU usage at 40% and CPU at 9% and it still says I'm throttling just sitting at the main menu. I did put GPU power in mangohud but it always shows 0 watts.

Apparently it's gets the info from the kernal.

[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm not sure. This is my first time using amd. I'm using linux mint on kernel 6.8.0-52. I typed in that command and nothing happened.

Hey everyone, I recently made a post about a new PC build. I was successful in building the PC. The specs are: ryzen 7 7800x3d and an 4070 ti super, 32 gigs of ddr5 ram, with an 850 watt PSU. I have booted up a couple games and have configured mango hud to make sure I'm getting the right performance. As far as I can tell, everything is running as it should. But, if you look at the picture provided, mangohud is showing that I'm currently throttling in power and temps. But looking at the above numbers I don't see how I'm throttling. Out of the games I've tested, black myth wukong, Hogwarts and silent hill 2 show I'm throttling. However, dead space remake, shadow of the tomb raider and ghost of Tsushima don't show im throttling. I'm confused by this and am wondering if it's a bug in mangohud?

EDIT: I'm on Linux mint. Kernal 6.8.0-52 EDIT2: doing some more research, I found this post https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/13z1ov1/how_do_i_resolve_throttling_power_issue/

Which says that the throttling is actually what I should expect and it shows I'm getting the most out of my PC. So maybe I misunderstood

EDIT 3: looking at the config file for mango hud, it says : display GPU throttling status based on power, current, temp or "other". It seems to me that, this popu up appears if you have any 1 of those conditions.

TBH I didn't even try it, I just did a fresh install lol.

Hi everyone, I am planning on building a new PC. The only things I'm planning on transferring from my old build are my hard drives. Will I have any problem putting my OS drive with Linux mint right into a whole new PC? My other question is if I use my current Linux OS drive do I have to remove the old GPU and CPU drivers? I'm sticking with an nvidia card but I will be switching from Intel to AMD. I know in Windows you have to use software to fully remove GPU drivers before using a new one.

EDIT: based off the mix of answers, I'm just going to do a clean install to save myself from possible headache. Thanks for the responses!

Tips on new build. (lemmy.world)

Hi everyone, I am looking to build a new PC and would like some feedback. I researched the different components and I believe everything should be compatible and fit in the case I chose. For reference, I am coming from an i7 8700k and an RTX 3070. My use case is 4k or 1440 gaming with demandings titles like Cyberpunk, with at least 60fps (preferably without needing to use DLSS too much) and mid to high settings. I also do some light video and photo editing, with some stable diffusion use. Here are the parts I picked so far. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XHyYLc

The GPU in there is a place holder, but I know I want either a 4080 or 4070 ti. I am going to shop around for the best deals but I want to make sure these components will work well together. All of the parts missing are parts I'll transfer from my old rig.

Thanks!

EDIT: looks like the 7800x3d is out of stock. So ill switch it with a 9700x.

EDIT2: 7800x3d is back in stock lol

EDIT 3: the RAM I'm looking to get isn't on the QVL list with the motherboard. What are the odds it won't work? I can't imagine they are able to test every ram model with their boards.

I built my PC back in 2019. I am still using the same CPU : i7 8700k. I have upgraded my GPU to an rtx 3070. I play only GPU heavy games in 4k usually with DLSS. I'm able to run most games in an acceptable framerate, 50-60fps. I would say my frame times could be better tho. I dont run any CPU heavy applications, but i have noticed that with these latest AAA games it takes forever to compile the shaders. My CPU is pretty outdated at this point, and I'm wondering if it would even be worth upgrading considering my use case and that I am mostly happy with my gaming performance. Oh and I run Linux if that makes a difference.

I'm wanting to move my current Linux mint install to a bigger drive that's NVME. I tried clone zilla and did the drive to drive oprion. But I'm unable to boot to the new drive. I read up on it and it seems like I didn't do the clone correctly. I was wondering, can I back up my current system with timeshift, then just do a normal install of Linux mint on the new drive, then use timeshift to restore my backed up system to the new SSD? Or should do I need to stay with clone zilla?

It's been several months since I switched to Linux mint and it's been great so far. My biggest headache has been dealing with Linux audio and trying to use JACK. I have an electronic drum kit and I use Reaper for recording and using VSTs with yabridge. I managed to get this to work but it only works with ALSA. I want to have YouTube open and play along to songs and this does not work with ALSA. I've researched and experimented with JACK for way longer than I cared to. When I switch to JACK, reaper doesn't recognize my e kit, even tho ita connected with patchbay, and it also makes my default audio output a dummy output. I've gotten to the point of just going back to windows cuz this has been a nightmare. Pulse audio does what I want but the latency is too high.

Is getting a second drive with windows on it the best solution?

EDIT: I have made some progress, I switched to bitwig, uses pipewire, mapped my pads to midi notes and assigned them sounds. I got the latency good and I'm able to play with YouTube. The only problem is bitwig doesn't recognize all the zones in my cymbals. I'm not sure how to fix that, when I was using Steven slate in reaper it registered all the zones.

I was able to successfully install and play zenless zone zero through steam. I installed the game launcher onto my OS drive but the game itself to a seperate Linux drive. I was able to play and install updates for a long time until yesterday. There was a new update out I tried to install it but it said I didn't have enough space. I have 300gigs available on the drive its installed to so I thought for some reason it's trying to install it to the OS drive. I wasn't sure how to fix that so I figured I'd just uninstall it and reinstall it to my second drive. But now when I go to install it, it says my drive doesnt have enough space. I'm not sure why it would say that when I have 300 gigs available. I also tried re installing the launcher onto the drive that I want to install the game on, but it won't install to a drive that isn't C: not sure what I can do now.

EDIT: I tried every solution suggested below, nothing worked. I eventually gave up and connected an external drive that's NTFS and the game installed to that. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. EDIT 2: after thinking about this I remembered that when I first installed ZZZ, I didn't have my drive auto-mounting on boot. I guess after making that change the launcher didn't like my drive or something

Looking for recommendations for good ear protection during concerts. I want ear buds that don't just muffle all the sound but limit higher unsafe frequencies while allowing you to still enjoy the music. I did a search and came up with a bunch of different kinds and varying reviews on amazon, I also asked my friend who is in the live audio business and he said I needed custom molded IEMs but that seemed a little over kill for me, even if it's the best way.

This Site shows the common ones I've seen.

Thanks!

EDIT: thanks everyone for the reaponses, I will go through and look at each of the recommended solutioms works best for me.

Hi everyone, I'm running Linux mint and I play a couple online multiplayer ghost hunting games: phasmophobia, demonologist mainly. Those games have mechanics where certain items need voice input to work properly so you can "talk to the ghosts". My USB mic is displayed in the game as an input but the game doesn't actually get any input from my mic. I know my mic works because it works in discord while playing those games. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm using "mangohud %command%" in steam launch options, but games just won't launch. I click play in steam and it tries to launch the game but then the green play icon comes back. Works perfectly in lutris. I've looked up guides but haven't found one that helps.

EDIT: it now works in steam after installing mangohud through Mint's package manager.

Hey everyone,

I'm taking my first international vacation next week. I am going to the Philippines, but I have a layover in South Korea. I just got an email from my airline and it says I might need to fill customs declaration. This is kind of confusing me, because the Website says you have to declare goods that exceed $800 US. But it doesn't specify if goods means everything you're bringing, or just 1 item exceeding $800. The most expensive things I'm bringing are my phone, steam deck and a tablet. Everything else is just clothes. But all that together would be over $800, (my phone was $799.99 brand new). So I'm just not sure if I need to fill out a declaration or not. I tried looking for the answer but was unsuccessful.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the responses. It is clear now that by "goods" they mean items intended for sale. I will not need to sign a declaration form. Thanks!

Thanks!
