No, because then the cult of personality will live on for as long as he does. People will pretend to be the heirs to him, but the movement will live on for as long as he does.

Hey, he's a tribal chief and he's creating jobs. That's more than I can say for my elected officials!

They don't have to. They never went away. They can't actually get rid of them. However, they don't actually push them and never really officially sold them. If you walked into your local Catholic Parish and asked for a plenary indulgence, they'd let you know how to get one

The Count was actually pretty scary [for a kids show] in the early years. They toned him down later, but in 1972 he was still frightening for kids.

Similar to this, there was an incident where Nixon (who was probably drunk) decided, in the middle of the night, with just his valet and a handful of Secret Service agents, to go down to the Lincoln Memorial where people were protesting his administration.

One of the craziest pre-Trump POTUS stories

The Secret Service were scared to begin with, but Nixon insited on going. Later on, as the crowd got more and more brazen, the Secret Service made an excuse for him to leave, telling him that he had a phone call at the White House, but Nixon waved them off and told them to let it wait.
