French Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Emma Fourreau was questioned by the Caen judicial police on Wednesday as part of an investigation into "apology for terrorism", French media reported.

Fourreau, who is a member of the left-wing La France Insoumise (France Unbowed, LFI) party, is under investigation for her comments welcoming the release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese pro-Palestine activist imprisoned for over 40 years in France.

"FINALLY! After 41 years in prison, Georges Ibrahim Abdallah will be released on 25 July. He was the oldest political prisoner, and France should be ashamed for keeping him locked up for so long. Long live his struggle, long live Palestine!" she wrote on X on 17 July.

The 25-year-old elected official said the investigation was launched by the prosecutor's office after reports of her post were sent via Pharos, the public platform for reporting illegal online content.

As per the French criminal code, "apology for terrorism" is defined as "directly inciting acts of terrorism or publicly condoning such acts". Rights defenders say that France's "apology for terrorism" law is being used to criminalise Palestine solidarity.

Microsoft has launched an “urgent” external inquiry into allegations Israel’s military surveillance agency has used the company’s technology to facilitate the mass surveillance of Palestinians.

The company said on Friday the formal review was in response to a Guardian investigation that revealed how the Unit 8200 spy agency has relied on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to store a vast collection of everyday Palestinian mobile phone calls.

The joint investigation with the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call found Unit 8200 made use of a customised and segregated area within Azure to store recordings of millions of calls made daily in Gaza and the West Bank.

Accrescent, for those who don't know, is an alternative android app store. They aim to compete directly with the play store, so unlike F-Droid they include both FOSS and proprietary apps. They are also very security focused. They're still small but I find their approach interesting and their ambition worth supporting.

Unfortunately, as with many FOSS projects, funding is a challenge. If you believe they are worth supporting, please read this blog post.

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with the project in any way, just a fan trying to raise awareness.

There's actual activity, nothing compared to Nutomics commits though. Not that Nutomic is much better, but he isn't always in the modlog censoring and pushing narratives all the time like dessalines is also

It's close enough, it's way too niche for a full comm on its own. If it's close enough for Phoronix to write an article for it, I'd argue it's close enough for this comm

Aw fuck, that sounds so good, but alas, I have no salsa :(

[–] cm0002@piefed.world 6 points 1 day ago

Not by itself though.

Well you see, I had started out toasting pieces of bread for it, but at some point I decided that was taking too long and just started eating it straight LMAO

We're still in the timeline where the Fire Phone was a commercial success, right? And Bernie Sanders is in his second term as President?

Nobody tell him, just let them live in peace 😌

WebApps are just...so laggy, Voyager is prob the least laggy React app I've ever seen...but there're still noticeable points where it is

Native UIs, while not entirely immune to lag, is tons better and generally use far less resources to achieve it

For a technical difference:

Voyager/Blorp use React which is basically JavaScript and typically requires the app to ship with everything needed to run JavaScript. Each app runs a "mini-browser". Though it has its pros because you only need to develop one app for all platforms.

Native UIs use the UI elements provided by the OS and each platform you release the app on must be developed separately, but it can also be optimized with less effort and less resources.

I don't even know where to start with this. It's only available from the Play Store, meaning you have to have a device with a Google account logged in system-wide.

Further, if you want to give money to the devs, the other options also make that available without a 30% tax applied to support one of the largest monopolistic corporations on Earth.

He has an alternative donation platform. If you contact him, he might be open to giving you an APK if you donate through that. Orr you could just donate through that and install an "acquired" APK. Orr just donate through that, block ads system wide and have it installed through a proxied store (e.g. Aurora Store). For the longest time I didn't even realize boost had ads because of my ad blocking LMAO

And they're also just better...

Boost is a native UI, both Voyager and Blorp (While visually appealing) are just web wrappers and I absolutely despise web wrapper "apps". Boost also beats Voyager in customization (won't comment on Blorp, never tried Blorp)

Booo, Boost is great and absolutely worth the couple bucks, that goes to a solo dev.
