Agnifilo argues against this decision. He is a model prisoner

The way the clothes they wear are flying off the shelves, and Luigi's outstanding photogenic quality, you bet they're a model prisoner.

There are things that happen to people who are nazis.

Those things usually aren't just done by random people alone. They happen because people were networked, organized and working together.

The number of days left to begin organizing are getting less and less.

On one hand, yes, these people are pathetic and have little idea what the symbols they're playing with truly mean beyond white supremacy. And yes, it is useful (and fun) to mock farcists.

On the other hand, some of these people are (literally) astronomically rich, in bed with leaders of one of the most powerful military forces ever to exist, and the others are those supported by these rich haute-booj oligarchs (just like the original Blackshirts and Brownsharts were supported by landowners and maginates). A Nazi salute, understood with respect to history and the powerplay of today, is personal to many people. If it's a teenage edgelord fucking around to get a reaction, sure, dismiss them or let them 'find out', but Musk and Bannon are people with huge influence over politicians and mass media. Elon Musk, for example, literally owns a pervasive media platform. They can start sizable rallies gathering both the batshit unhinged and the ideologically driven, armed and hungry.

So if you're someone who the Nazis would have sent to the extermination camps (and there are many, many groups that were, basically most of humanity), then that salute is someone with state power declaring they want you dead. I wouldn't call it insulting as much as a credible death threat.

If you don’t know something, just ask.

I did. I asked a question.

The quote of mine are several of the explicitly stated goals of that terrorist group that were successfully carried out.

Where are these goals explicitly stated by al-Qaeda? Please provide sources.

For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks#Motives

In November 2001, bin Laden defended the attacks as retaliatory strikes against American atrocities against Muslims across the world.

He also maintained that the attacks were not directed against women and children, asserting that the targets of the strikes were symbols of America's "economic and military power".

This is why the planes were sent to the Twin Towers (symbol of economic power) and the Pentagon (symbol of military power).

In bin Laden's November 2002 Letter to the American People, he identified al-Qaeda's motives for the attacks:

U.S. support of Israel[48][49] Bin Laden's strategy to support and globally expand the Second Intifada[50][51][52][53] Attacks against Muslims by U.S.-led coalition in Somalia U.S. support of the government of Philippines against Muslims in the Moro conflict U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon U.S. support of Russian atrocities against Muslims in Chechnya Pro-American governments in the Middle East (who "act as your agents") being against Muslim interests U.S. support of Indian oppression against Muslims in Kashmir The presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia[54] The sanctions against Iraq[48] Environmental destruction[55][56][57]

Their goal was to combat US military intervention .They don't care about random US citizens being scared, that doesn't help them combat the US military, and they didn't want the US to be in their country so why would they want to be chased? It makes no sense for "terrifying the US population and forcing them to waste resources chasing an unseen enemy” to be the goals of al-Qaeda. They didn't want to waste resources, they wanted soldiers gone or killed.

If you can pull a few people out of filter bubbles, it helps. But it's up to you to decide if it's worth the investment, it really depends on where you are and what you can do.

You can also engage in one-person propaganda efforts, like putting up critical posters/stickers. Just don't get caught.

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

It's a tough battle upwards, the established propaganda model helps make sure of that, but undeniably at the end of the day, the workers in the US hold more than enough power collectively to threaten decision makers into compromise (and, if you have the guts, submission). I'm not even talking about violence, I'm talking about things like withholding labor and simple sabotage.

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

You have power. Help us out: https://specificsuggestions.com/

[–] comfy@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Absolutely. Trump's and the Project 2025's "America First" strategy is essentially turning US imperialism inward on its own citizens now that the former global dominance is waning.

to destroy an important symbol of the US, terrify the US population and force them to waste resources chasing an unseen enemy.

Are you implying the 'inside job' conspiracy theory, or suggesting these were the goals of Al-Qaeda?

I'm not saying that to reject the former, it has some debatable credibility, but if you're proposing the latter, "to destroy an important symbol of the US, terrify the US population and force them to waste resources chasing an unseen enemy" doesn't make sense from Al-Qaeda's perspective, contradicts the choices of targets, and contradicts their stated motives both years before and after the 2001 attacks. Young Man Blames Health Crisis for Sudden Death of Chief Executed Officer

"Everything has a name", if something is made, used, discovered or imagined, there is probably at least one name for it.

The cap at the top of a flagpole ('truck'). A single primary vein down the middle of typical leaves ('midrib'). The coating sheath at the end of shoelaces ('aglet'). The creases across the inside of your wrist ('rasceta'). The protective enclosure of a radar, including the nose cone of most airliner planes ('radome'). The square hole in the top of an anvil ('hardy hole'). The iconic football/soccer ball design, that is, the truncated icosahedron with pentagonal black and hexagonal white panels (Adidas's 'Telstar' design). All those different types of cave mineral deposits like stalactites, flowstone, frostwork and moonmilk ('speleothem').

(Any language is fine)

On the other hand, some have explicit ideological positions or themes (e.g. lemmygrad.ml, slrpnk.net) and others are shaped by moderation (.ml taking a hard stance against the sinophobia normal in mainatream media, .world and a few other instances/staff banning comments making light of violence e.g. luigi)

Wikipedia defines common sense as "knowledge, judgement, and taste which is more or less universal and which is held more or less without reflection or argument"

Try to avoid using this topic to express niche or unpopular opinions (they're a dime a dozen) but instead consider provable intuitive facts.

Different local areas have different road rules and different unwritten rules in culture. Or maybe you just have a low bridge. What mistake do non-local drivers make in your area?

DPRK social media innovation when?

Much of the Fediverse, especially the most popular communities, are continuations or clones of existing communities from twitter/reddit/etc., which makes sense given the history of these platforms as alternatives to those sites.

Are there any original communities which exist on the Fediverse with no similar community on the mainstream alternative service?

There were some posts over the holiday season asking for projects to donate to, and for those who have the means to comfortably do so, this is an important gift to consider.

If there's only a limited amount each of us is able to give, I assume there's no point giving it all to, for one example, The Linux Foundation, because a small personal donation is trivial next to the ~$15,000,000 USD they receive from sponsors dependent on them[1]. I understand that funding sources can be a major and profound source of bias[2] and ideally we would be, for example, helping to make Firefox independent of Google, but until we have more collective power, it's not worth letting smaller important projects struggle instead.

So, which important projects should we leave to the sponsors, and which really need our support?

Most online communities have a low barrier of entry and effectively no user onboarding, and end up becoming chaotic messes where content is difficult to navigate. Obviously this is fine for more chatty communities, but is unfortunate in more serious and discussion-focused forums and for content archives. Even on Lemmy, there are communities where formatting rules are completely ignored[1]. This results from a combination of site design, moderation, and user respect for the community (three things notoriously bad on reddit-like sites, and well, most popular sites)

A couple of exceptions to the trend are forums which enforce a barrier of entry and quality control (unfortunately I can't recall any right now, but I would love to hear of some!) and some booru IBs. A booru site is an archive where users upload media without titles and tag it for easy searching. If a booru manages to enforce a decent quality of tagging (and there are mechanical ways to assist with this, such as tag aliases) then the site becomes a well-organized online content community.

Most boorus I've found allow NSFW content, so here are some work-safe examples:
