Obligatory US troop copypasta

You see american choppers in the bright blue sky, hundreds and hundreds of screaming american soldiers drop from it, you look across the field and see the tanks rolling in. You hear a loud explosion and realise that the shrine you have protected for thousands of years with tooth and nail is destroyed by the empire, you come to the realisation that this is very probably the end of your people who’ve struggled to survive all these centuries. You realise that very soon there is going to be a river of blood of your people here; white phosphorus and depleted uranium will be shot very soon, deforming babies for decades to come, and millions of your people are gonna be killed. Your millennia old language and religion will be wiped out, you’re very likely the last of your kind.

Suddenly, an American soldier kicks you down, puts his foot on your neck and aims his standard ar-15 on the side of your head all while screaming; you realise you’re gonna die, and you won’t have to see the destruction of your community that you fostered so carefully all these centuries for.

Just before he pulls the trigger, you think to yourself, “To be fair to him, he probably had a low GPA in highschool and didnt have a health-care, those are notoriously hard to get in America”.

This thread is being targeted by a lot of no-content "correct the record" fediverse accounts, upvoting pro-genocide US democratic party and Israeli talking points. Please report them so we can ban them ASAP.

Thank you to all the posters below doing great work debunking them.

If Harris had won the 2024 election, do you honestly think she would be mass deporting immigrants without a trial, starting a trade war with China, attempt to cut funding for FEMA, etc?

Of course, look at her predecessor. Obama massively increased ICE, deportations, and did a pivot to asia.

She has her own list of atrocities to account for, but most importantly, she's pro-israel, and pro-genocide.

Yeah democrats really care about the poor.

And they totally wouldn't increase the ICE budget, and deportations.

edit: By the way, you might want want to be a little less transparent with vote manipulation. I just banned 3 of your no-content alts.

Now go do your fucking job developing the Lemmy software, because this software is full of issues and the grownups are talking about important issues that actually have a point.

Leaving this comment up to show the titanic levels of entitlement and arrogance from the anti-communist crowd.

Even open source devs only exist to do free labor for them, we're not people to them.

I'm actually very sympathetic to this. What the US did, and continues to do, is far worse than what the fascists of the 1920s-40s attempted.

The Nazis and Japanese fascists tried (and failed) to acheive what the US sucessfully did: the colonization and eviction of hundreds of native peoples, and clearing of an entire region for the "master race". All under a far more stable form of government for colonialism : bourgeois democracy.

Lebensraum failed, but manifest destiny succeeded.

Not only that, but committed countless other atrocities, unparalleled in history.

Democrats somehow managed to label themselves as the "antifascist" party, while funding the worst genocide of the 2000s. Astounding

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What that means in the American system is we vote against liberals in the primaries, and we vote for them against the fascists.

The democrats are also funding this genocide:

There was no Alligator Auschwitz under the Democrats.

The democrats expanded these immigrant prison camps. Some stats from the Obama era:

Guantanamo Bay wasn't a concentration camp for immigrants under the Democrats.

The democrats didn't close their torture camp in Cuba either.

[–] dessalines@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

The latter. Western supremacists who hate everyone the US government tells them to.

It's dead or empty accounts from a lot of different servers, not just lemmy.world. I just banned like 20 of them.

They use api tools to target certain accounts for downvoting.

Content manipulation on the fediverse is gonna be a big issue for the foreseeable future, especially to push pro-US foreign policy points.

This is really a monumental societal change.

3rd spaces are nearly completely destroyed, and online seems to be the main option for ppl now.

This is building consent for a US war on Venezuela.

Nobel war prize more like, considering the people they award this to.

It's been a busy month, with a lot of work to add new features to lemmy-ui which were already added to the Lemmy backend before. There were also a lot of bug fixes for the development version. We are gradually getting closer to a 1.0 release.

While the API changes for 1.0 are mostly finalized, we still have many more lemmy-ui 1.0 tasks to complete.

Some of the major additions:

  • Simplified lemmy-ui development.
  • Audio file support in lemmy-ui.
  • Added comment locking (which also locks children). Thanks to @flamingos-cant)
  • Post time filtering, with a smart dropdown.
  • Added ability to block all users from an instance (separate from blocking all communities)
  • Added ability to make a note for a person, and view the vote totals you've given to them.
  • Fixed remote RSS feeds.
  • Added ability to do actions on report items, from the reports page.

An open source project the size of Lemmy needs constant work to manage the project, implement new features and fix bugs. Dessalines and Nutomic work full-time on these tasks and more. As there is no advertising or tracking, all of our work is funded through donations. Even so there is barely enough time in the day, and no time for a second job. The only available option are user donations. To keep it viable donations need to reach a minimum of 5000€ per month, resulting in a modest salary of 2500€ per developer. If that goal is reached we can stop worrying about money, and fully focus on improving the software for the benefit of all users and instances. We especially rely on recurring donations to secure the long-term development and make Lemmy the best it can be.
