If that means compromising encryption, which it does, then the benefits to everyone of end-to-end encryption and the protection it affords against both government overreach/abuse and third-party intruders tend to outweigh the benefits of government surveillance through encryption backdoors.

Don't they also brick your printer if you don't subscribe to their ink service?

Ok, it's Raster Operations Pipeline for anyone who doesn't want to read that far.

Edit: In this context it is probably Raster Output Processor, as sp3ctr4l points out.

Steve Bannon finished his speech with another Nazi salute, and these people lap it up. It's time for the remnants of the USA to start actually fighting these fascists. Trump just put loyalists in charge of the military, so resistance needs to start now if it's going to start at all.

I'm Canadian and it would be really nice if Americans would start to fight back before Trump's military invades us.

As a Canadian, this looks worryingly like he's lining up the military leadership who will be prepared to invade Canada - not to mention Gaza, Greenland, Panama, and any parts of Europe Putin doesn't want yet.

Which party promises to defend end-to-end encryption? I thought there were no good options.

Oh look, they go to X for some balanced commentary:

THIS is the result of Democrats and legacy media calling Elon Musk “HitIer.”

Now why on Earth would they do that?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 day ago (3 children)

To secure US networks, start by kicking Musk out of government systems.

The leopard they fed is getting uncomfortably close to their faces.

Not to mention that once Russia is done with Ukraine they're not going to stop. Defending Ukraine is defending Europe.

They're threatening daily to take Canada by whatever means necessary. That's not an ally, that's a threat. Canada needs to protect itself, and the British people are quite right to back Ukraine. Trump is working with Putin to hand Ukraine to Russia. Russia will not stop its ambitions there and it is a threat to all of Europe.

Yesterday Trump threatened to pull US troops out of Europe if the EU did not agree to his and Putin's plan for Ukraine. It's a very clear threat: give Ukraine to Russia or we give you to Russia. Of course the USA in its current state would not defend Europe anyway. To me it looks like the plan is for Trump to seize Canada, Greenland, Panama, etc., while Putin grabs as much of Europe as he can.

Under these conditions what is NATO? Trump is deliberately destroying it.

So the UK, Canada and Europe need to stand firm against the alliance of the USA, Russia and those European countries that have gone over to fascism. The very existence of our countries is at stake.

And watch out for the far right at home, in the UK, Canada and Europe. Their loyalties do not lie with their countries, and they're being bankrolled and supported by powerful people internationally.

Because observations are never perfect, data are never complete, and gravitational interactions are complicated. The more observations you have the better you can estimate the orbit, but asteroids are hard to observe and you may not have that many data points. Mass and velocity must be estimated from observations that are compatible with different solutions. A brighter dot might mean a bigger asteroid or more reflective material, for example, and the mass depends on both. A particular speed of apparent motion is compatible with different velocities depending on whether and how much the asteroid is moving towards or away from the observer. All these kinds of factors make for uncertainty.

Rattled by a horde of MAGA trolls, here’s what I learned about today’s social media miasma.

Last Friday I made a post on Bluesky and X, concerning U.S. President Donald Trump’s description of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor.” It occurred to me that, numb as we are to Trump’s stream of blather, the importance of that remark was being overlooked. It was an overt declaration by the president of the United States that he does not recognize Canadian sovereignty. That’s scary.

So, my post: “For a US president to refer to the Prime Minister of Canada as ‘Governor’ isn’t just rude. It’s a hostile act.”

The post got little attention on Bluesky. On X, for whatever reason, it went berserk. Over the weekend it racked up close to 3,000 reposts, over 29,000 “likes” and more than 5,000 replies. Those replies came almost entirely from Trump-loving trolls, piling scorn and abuse on my concerns. “Yeah but it’s Canada so who gives a fuck?” said one.

Do the responses represent a genuine glimpse of U.S. opinion on Trump’s bully-boy act?

Summary

Since Donald Trump’s return to office, ICE and DEA agents have intensified immigration enforcement, conducting door-to-door sweeps in Colorado.

Initially targeting suspected criminals, recent operations now question all residents, regardless of warrants. A Denver apartment complex saw widespread searches, sparking protests and fear among undocumented families.

Activists and attorneys are mobilizing to inform residents of their rights. Schools report growing student anxiety.

Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, confirmed a broad crackdown, declaring, “If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table.”
