Tariffs aren't external revenue. They're paid by the importer/consumer of the foreign goods (i.e. within the United States.) For starters, the current and proposed tariffs come nowhere close to the amount of money needed to replace income taxes. In addition, if the tariffs successfully discourage American consumers from buying products that they apply to, the money generated by the tariffs also drops even further...

Really it doesn't hold up to any scrutiny at all if you think about it even a little bit. To champion it like you're doing... at best, you have no understanding of the mechanisms being discussed, and you're believing their lies hook, line, and sinker. At worst, you are doing a poor job of trolling or are deliberately spreading propaganda. And given you know how to type, it's very sad that you don't know better, because you should.

Are you really saying you're taking their word for it? You make that new account just to troll?

That is a false dichotomy. There is no reason not to simplify the tax code and close loopholes while also ensuring the IRS has the resources it needs to adequately hold wealthier taxpayers accountable. Please participate in good faith.

The IRS is a good thing. It was starting to go in a better direction re: having increasing resources and capability to audit wealthier entities before this admin.

Never thought I'd be wishing hell was real. This is evil.

Bad title. The article examines whether specifically noise-cancelling headphones may be involved in listening issues.

Gotta be careful with actual licorice lest you end up in a Chubbyemu episode

researchers described the canceled projects at the department’s Institute of Education Sciences as rigorous evaluations of how the federal government spends education dollars, efforts to improve the reading and math skills of U.S. students and guides for teachers on evidence-based methods of instruction. Many of the projects were near completion and had mostly been paid out, which means that the implied savings are likely much less than $881 million touted by DOGE.

In case someone in your life still needs more evidence that they're full of shit

let's hope some actual evidence of "inefficiency" is needed and not just the bare assertion of it, because you know that will be the trump admin's immediate next step

That's a little over 3% of the entire federal workforce, to put it in perspective

No, that's not entirely on her. It sucks that she didn't step out of line from Biden's stance on Israel. But it also sucks that a lot of Democratic voters decided their personal feelings of moral sanctimony justified electing someone with a drastically worse stance on the issue.

I don't think there's been an election in living memory where people liked 100% of the candidate's policy. Your duty as a voter is to make the most suitable choice from among the viable candidates. People who claimed they couldn't vote for Kamala because she wouldn't oppose Israel's genocide, and who abstained from voting, directly contributed to worsening the situation with their choices, and they aided in deeply sabotaging (if not destroying) the country in the process.

"You can't support Harris without supporting genocide" was right-wing propagandist bullshit the entire time, and it's deeply saddening that so many people couldn't see the forest for the trees. Most of them are probably still feeling smug about it while ignoring the blood on their hands.

I'm thinking about buying a new PC in the next month or two. I don't play a whole lot of recent games, though it'd be nice to have the option, and I think I'd probably end up with a capable GPU anyway if I want something capable of 3d rendering like Blender, and possibly fooling around with local LLMs.

Function wise, I'm thinking I want a solid CPU, and to stack it with RAM, VRAM, and storage. and I think liquid cooling might be overrated if I don't plan to OC it. It'll also likely be migrating to Linux in a year or two when Windows 10 finally dies, if there are hardware concerns with that.

Aesthetics wise, Mainly I am not too interested in having everything be RGB. I would also prefer plastic paneling over glass; my computer case hangs from a desk mount and in the unlikely event that it has a structural failure I'd like to be more worried about the computer hardware than picking shards out of my skin.

I'm not opposed to building something myself from parts, but I wouldn't mind looking at builders / pre built as an option.

Title. I found out recently that I need some major dental work in the near future and I don't have a damn clue how I am going to raise the extra money. I want to explore any realistic options for increasing my earnings before I have to resort to taking on debt, and I suspect that soliciting ideas in a semi-public place like this will turn up a lot of ideas I would never have considered myself.

I'm not very physically fit, but I am pretty good with computers generally, and I've picked up a little bit of programming in my free time this year, though I wouldn't sell myself as a freelancer in that department or anything. I am also pretty good at proofreading / nitpicking things, my regular job is in QA.

Thank you in advance for any input.
