Does it work well with Lemmy embeds (e.g. under the post description)?

[–] uberstar@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I feel it's important to me that the service doesn't block as many countries

i just want to create a community to dump my gaming clips without using too much of lemmy.ml's capacity lol.. Any suggestions?

off-topic here as well, why stop at privacy policies? EULAs can get wilder, best such example of which is Apple:

it's pretty hard to paint a general picture of lemmy when, more often than not, one instance is drastically different from the other.

detective conan sure had a hard time cracking the case!

"The personal information we collect from you may be stored on a server located outside of the country where you live. We store the information we collect in secure servers located in the People's Republic of China," the privacy policy reads.

Oh the horror! Let's look at what our glorious spawns-of-techbro heroism has for us in store:

ChatGPT:

OpenAI processes your Personal Data for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy on servers located in various jurisdictions, including processing and storing your Personal Data in our facilities and servers in the United States. While data protection law varies by country, we apply the protections described in this policy to your Personal Data regardless of where it is processed, and only transfer that data pursuant to legally valid transfer mechanisms.

Claude:

When you access our website or Services, your personal data may be transferred to our servers in the US, or to other countries outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”) and the UK. This may be a direct provision of your personal data to us, or a transfer that we or a third party make.

So not only is your data "possibly" stored in one country, now there's a possibility of it being stored in many different countries. Where's the outcry for that?

Ok, so maybe your data being under the jurisdiction of another country is sus, right?

In another section about how DeepSeek shares user data, the company states that it may share user information to "comply with applicable law, legal process, or government requests."

OH MY GOD SOUND THE ALARM!

ChatGPT:

spoiler

We may use Personal Data for the following purposes: [...] To comply with legal obligations and to protect the rights, privacy, safety, or property of our users, OpenAI, or third parties.

Claude:

Pursuant to regulatory or legal requirements, safety, rights of others, and to enforce our rights or our terms. We may disclose personal data to governmental regulatory authorities as required by law, including for legal, tax or accounting purposes, in response to their requests for such information or to assist in investigations. We may also disclose personal data to third parties in connection with claims, disputes or litigation, when otherwise permitted or required by law, or if we determine its disclosure is necessary to protect the health and safety of you or any other person, to protect against fraud or credit risk, to enforce our legal rights or the legal rights of others, to enforce contractual commitments that you have made, or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.

So not only can your data be subject to the authorities, but it's also handed out to 3rd parties (mind you, DeepSeek does the exact same, so why is it any surprise?).

Not only does DeepSeek collect "text or audio input, prompt, uploaded files, feedback, chat history, or other content that [the user] provide[s] to our model and Services," ...

🤦... You get the idea now, bother yourself with the privacy policies of the respective contemporaries and CTRL + F to "User Content" or "User Input".. Same fucking shit.

Companies with AI models like Google, Meta, and OpenAI collect similar troves of information, but their privacy policies do not mention collecting keystrokes.

Yes, collecting keystrokes is probably the oddest thing here. To compare data farming giants with a decade and a half's worth of data collection to a startup in terms of data collection is so astronomically dumb.

I could go on but I'm bored now. Do your own research.

A new English-language Polish film about Vladimir Putin, in which the Russian president is portrayed using AI-powered special effects to superimpose his real face on an actor, will premiere on 10 January.

The biopic, titled Putin, is the work of Polish filmmaker Patryk Vega, who is best known for movies about the criminal underworld.

The director had initially planned to make a film about Russian gangsters but, after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he decided to focus on “Russia’s biggest gangster”, Putin, he told newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.

...

“The audience needed to see the real Putin,” Vega told British newspaper The Telegraph. “They see him every day in the media. Even the best actor with great make-up wouldn’t convincingly portray a figure everyone in the world knows so well.”

If this "partially automates" the problem, then it's good enough for me. I think this is as close as close can get to what I'm looking for, I will try this out for sure, thanks!

I'm looking for something that takes a CV (e.g. md, pdf, odt, whatever) and a site to the job post as inputs and outputs a CV that is tailored to the requirements listed in that job post, without significantly changing the CV in some way..

I know that LLMs would be best used for such a problem, but the issue is that I don't have such a beefy computer to run an LLM locally.. Maybe there's something out there that doesn't use an LLM? Anything that helps with applying and making sure that the CV is attractive enough to your average ATS, honestly.

does it change the aptly-attributed title "cinematic masterpiece" in any way, hmmmmm?

Yep, that's true, the latest census was from 2021, and the figure was 3.69%.

Probably the figures weren't available to Ipsos at the time, despite the publishing date :/? Idk..

Alternative view (directly from the source):

IMO being off by around 10% or more is still quite the leap.

Also unsurprising where the sentiment is coming from:

Serendipity, idk it sounds cool, "serendipitous" moments happen a lot irl (e.g. forgetting to bring ur wallet with u to the supermarket but minutes later, you end up finding a coin in a random pocket from your jacket to unlock a shopping cart), but it almost only sees its use in fiction, like.....

Hello there, are there any FOSS Android apps out there that serve as both a reader and a vault for PDFs? I want to be able to encrypt the PDF files and decrypt+read them with a single vault password.

I could just encrypt PDF files separately using the same password, but it's not really that convenient having to go through several PDFs tbh.

I want to store the PDFs on the storage of my phone.

UPDATE: Safe Space is exactly what I needed, ty @chemicalwonka@discuss.tchncs.de, will provide a review of the app later

This comes as a result of a scuffle between South Americans and Poles, with two ending up hospitalized in Śrem. Followed by this, stupid questions like "Have open borders brought gang violence to Poland all the way from South America?" (Blood) are seriously being asked and discussed.

Pictures of the situation's aftermath: Atak ostrym przedmiotem na śremskiej plaży. Są poważnie ranni [AKTUALIZACJA] (CW: Blood, albeit censored)

Latest statement the Śrem Police, Google Translated:

Yesterday, September 7, just after At 11 p.m., the Śrem Police officer on duty was notified about a fight that took place on the beach at Lake Grzymisławskie in Śrem. Police investigations into this matter were and are currently ongoing throughout the night. The police are explaining the situation and determining the course of the event in which several people took part. Two men, residents of Śrem, were taken to hospital with injuries. The police detained four men as suspects of involvement in the fight. One of these men is an Argentine national and three are Colombian nationals. They were all taken to police custody. Today, at 09.40, policemen from the Śrem Implementation Group detained a fifth man as a person suspected of participating in a fight. He is also a Colombian citizen. This man was also taken into police custody , said the deputy inspector in the morning. Kasińska.

To no one's surprise, this is a clear-cut scapegoating of all immigrants for the actions of a few, looking for any excuse to wage racist, xenophobic actions on less than 3.69% of the population of Poland.

Nationalities outside of Europe are so small, they are all relegated to the "other" row on the census .-.

Proponents of these lynch mobs will say that the data above may be a bit outdated, since there's been a bump-up on the non-Poles population (as if it justifies the proliferation of these mobs), but will omit the fact that after 2021, most of them come from Ukraine.. So that still doesn't change much of anything.

The patrol policy:

The patrol will supposedly be followed by police monitoring, as if that'd make it any better.
