  1. Amendment to get rid of gerrymandering. Districts will be drawn up by statistical models that emphasize culture, values, demographics of the district. Every citizen also gets a vote by mail ballot.
  2. Amendment to implement sensible gun control. Not ban guns, as people need some way to fight back against a tyrannical government. And some people truly do need to keep themselves safe from wildlife, crime, etc.
  3. Amendment to bring in Puerto Rico and Washington DC as states in the union. If Texas wants to split into East TX and West TX, I’m fine with that too.
  4. Law to require 2 years voluntary service. Meals, food, housing, recreational stipend will be provided. Similar to CCC, you’ll learn a trade and build up a camaraderie that will last a lifetime. As a citizen in a country, you should have skin in the game, it gives you a sense of ownership . Bonus is infrastructure gets kept up and senior citizens are cared for. Volunteer groups can be unionized.
  5. Gas tax goes up significantly. Seriously, Europe pays $8/gallon. Why the hell do we need to keep it at $3? Tax will pay to build out much needed public transportation and sustainable energy grid infrastructure. We need trains people. If China can do it in a country much more mountainous than ours, we can do it.
  6. Wealth tax. Anything over $100 million earnings is taxed progressively at 70% anything above $1B is taxed at 90%. Tax on unrealized gains, but can be balanced by unrealized losses.
  7. Abolish tax exempt status for churches. You can be nonprofit, but you will still be taxed. No more slave owning mega-pastors.
  8. Amendment to overturn Citizens United. Political contributions will be limited. You want your money to be speech? Sure, do it the old fashioned way and convince enough people to align with your cause.
  9. Federal Healthcare for everyone damnit! What the hell is wrong with us!?
  10. Give more power back to the states. There will be some cohesive things that we all agree upon that keep the tether of our society together, but New York is not Oklahoma is not Colorado is not Alabama. States should have more power to govern themselves. Think of it like Catalonia in Spain or Scotland in UK. States are the test beds of democracy.

Would I get a second term? Hell no. I’m a change agent technocrat. People like a showman. There’s a reason city planners are divorced from mayors at the municipal level. I come in like a four mile freight train then I go home. Some populist demagogue would probably replace me.

South US, but in the mountains where it is much cooler. SO is vegetarian and I am an omnivore but skew vegetarian, especially at home. I leave heated things out to cool from hot to warm before putting in the fridge. About an hour, maybe 2 when I am being forgetful. Anything over that is taking risk. I’ve had a few nasty bouts of food poisoning before so I skew on the safe side.

My mom on the other hand grew up very differently. Lives by the beach in a much warmer more humid climate. She’ll leave moist dump cakes unrefrigerated for days. She’s more homeopathic than me, says the spices have been used for ages to preserve food. She’s not wrong, but you have to throw in a lot more cinnamon than what our Americanized palate is accustomed to. We are very careful about what we eat when we visit, and even then, small bites to try first.

I’m sure you’ve heard this so many times before. It’s not necessarily the bacteria itself, but their waste products that put you at risk. I’m not sure what the salt content of taco meat is, and if your taco meat is dry or wet, but I do think you may be putting yourself in this particular instance.

  • Friendships- getting to experience life through their stories and having someone to share your own
  • children - watching them grow, observe and learn their world. My daughter called the moving sidewalk at the airport today “the travelator”
  • travel - experiencing life, architecture and food from a different culture’s perspective are some of the best parts of living
  • stories - you have Netflix on there, but I’d add to finish that long form podcast or that good book
  • volunteering - use acts of service to serve yourself. You’ll have people who rely on you. Also helps with garnering a few friendships.
  • Hobbies - that ruby throated hummingbird needs you to keep filling up the feeder. Why is it still here in late fall anyway? Maybe it knows you need it too.

If it helps, I’m not some happy bunny traipsing through the tulips of life. I’ve been severely depressed before. I was so depressed that I dropped out of university at one point and it took me nearly 10 years to return to get a degree. I was so depressed after my SO left me 4 months after I thought she was the one and moved away from everything I knew for her, that I laid in bed for half a year. I was so depressed when I just worked and rarely, if ever, dated for 3 years in my late 20s - I ended up quitting my job and moving, which led to me learning my passion for long distance cycling, new friends and renewed career opportunities.

It does get better if you let it, if you will it even, and sprinkled with little bit of luck when those opportunities present themselves.

Federal workers will get back pay. You’re parroting the right’s messaging. People wanted the left to fight.

Because of how the people gave the right all of the levers of government last election, this is one of the few areas where dems have any power to wield - senate needs 60% to pass any funding legislation.

You wanted a battle, the dems took it to the mattresses. We should be praising them for being bold and we, the left, should be seeking out those government workers who are struggling the most and doing gofundme’s to care for them. This is a war and they are soldiers on the front lines, directly in the line of fire. We need to be their support regiment.

Conversely, the right needs to feel the pain of what a lack of federal government looks like, because a lot of them don’t value it at all, because they don’t understand how it serves them. They only see it as “protection money” that come out of their paycheck. For them, we need to find the union workers who left the left. We need to gain back the dirt farmers in Montana, the disenfranchised Hispanics in Southern Texas and in the burroughs of NYC and the suburbanite moms in Bucks County. Moreover, we need to fight like hell to show that we give a damn and have a spine and that we will, we will, fight for them.

Rigatoni? Huh, ours are usually in sales, or each others wives.

It’s not too much unlike Obama. There’s going to be a power vacuum. I’m not saying Obama was a cult leader, but he was a cult of personality. He was able to rally the 3 major factions of the dem party behind him and bring in independents as well.

When he left, no one was left to pick up the pieces, and worse, he fostered so much animosity that we got the backlash that we are still dealing with today.

The left needs to rally and find their champion, just like the tea party did.

TFW you’re just within the bounds of the law as you’re just visiting jail.

Community chest is a lot more fun in this version too.

Sounds like a great time for malicious compliance.

You must use the chorus from at least one popular song in your writing.

That's why hot sauce makes it taste better.

Have you ever wandered about in public and wondered at the end of the day who you could have been with? Well now you can find out with “Missed Contacts.”

The way it works is that it visually records all of the people you interacted with during the day. At the end of the day you can then scroll through them and swipe left or right. A match gets you contact!

Say goodbye to plenty of fish! Forget eHarmony! Now you can find love right out in public without the “awkwardness” of interacting with people out in public!

Ever seen a particularly delicious meal on TV then rushed to your local fast food taco stand or burger restaurant only to be completely disappointed in the final product?

We are not so different from that pre-revolutionary France: https://www.worldhistory.org/image/19448/the-three-estates-of-pre-revolutionary-france/.

The current POTUS is a megalomaniac imperialist who thinks himself a depot rather than an elected official. A significant majority of the clergy, particularly evangelicals, support his efforts because it amplifies their power. The nobility class (oligarchs, billionaires) hold an imbalance of the country's wealth. We are vastly becoming servants to their feudal "estates", except now we call them C-corps. The rest of us, the common-folk, the 98%, are in disarray. In a world of abundance, our paychecks continue to grant us less and less purchasing power. As feudalism progresses, we are forced to rent instead of own. We know the system is rotting, but we are not coalescing around the reasons why.

One of the first areas that the POTUS has attacked is USAID. There is a reason for this. Of all of the departments, USAID employ(s/ed) the largest subset of highly educated employees within the government: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/01/07/what-the-data-says-about-federal-workers/. If you, dear reader, continue to frame the discussion as government efficiency, then you are towing the their line. This is blatant hollowing out of the educated class from government. They'll guise this as "market efficiency" but they know exactly what they are doing by hollowing out the educated state. As USAID falls, as the Department of Justice falls and as the Department of Education is soon to fall, it terrorizes the remaining federal employees to flee or get in line.

This is state capture.

Now onto enforcement.

Little is being discussed of the purging of the FBI for retribution of what they did during the first term. Sure, there is certainly an argument to be had that a federal police force can be problematic. But consider that, when you purge half a workforce that is investigating significant crimes against the US, that purge is going to directly correlate to less enforcement and a weakening of the rule of law. You should expect a resurgence of the mafia and the mob, only these dealings will be obscured from view because the scapegoat will be the focus on gang violence, which again, serves their narrative.

Instead of the FBI, who I expect to begrudgingly follow the 1st and 2nd estates agenda, we'll instead see a mass increase to the Department of Homeland Security. This is a group that aligns more with the depots vision. They are to be the Blackshirts of Italy or the SS of Germany. It will start as the enforcers for border security, but once the catalyst happens, this group is to be our morality police.

They also have purged the main group who is in charge of Federal Election fraud. Wake up and get angry - The people who were screaming about free and fair elections just destroyed the entity that ensured free and fair elections. There are so many foxes in the henhouse that it's now a foxhouse.

History serves as a guide: it's easier to cull the resistance if you can outflank it from its inception. Once it is gone, it can take years, even generations to regroup, if ever. And the tools our adversaries are equipping themselves with are stronger than ever.

The Resistance: The power they HAVE is the POWER we CEDE.

I do not want to live in current state Iran. I do not want to live under oligarchic Russia. Nor do I want to live under the Khmer Rouge. I want to live in the America that I know, that I grew up in. I want to be free to share my thoughts, have the freedom to express myself in the full spectrum, and be true to myself. And in that right, I share the same for you. We should all strive to be John Winthrop's "Shining city upon a hill." We are not a utopia, but damned if we don't strive to be.

We need to be prepared, because they our going full Blitzkrieg. First the state, then onto the states.

For one, DOGE. We are enabling what constitutes as a LARPing LAN party to play government bureaucrat. The folks are special advisors to the president. Special advisors only get 130 days to do what they do. Surely they are queuing up the next round of special advisors to roll in after.

  • Contact your federal representatives - they need to know just how pissed we are that a group of 6 people are compromising our federal data. Calls do matter. Letters do too. Hell, if you're too lazy, just copy and paste one of the existing letters out there, or have your AI du jour write it for you.
  • The LAN party has access to the Treasury databases and will past April 20th. They will study your tax data if they can get it. Late filing exists: https://www.irs.gov/filing/get-an-extension-to-file-your-tax-return

Immigrants

Immigrants, they get the job done! We are a nation of immigrants. I heard just yesterday say "I don't care if they come back, I just want them to come back legally" (eye roll). Firstly, these folks need to understand just how hard it is to get into this country legally nowadays and moreover how hard it is to become a naturalized citizen. Secondly, with birthright citizenship possibly going away, these folks need to understand that they may not be citizens anymore either. What better way to create a feudal state than to strip away people's citizenship and voting rights.

  • Donate to causes that offer sanctuary - money, time, whatever you can do. You don't have to be front-lines. These people need writers and advocates too, and right now they are being flooded.

Free-Press

  • Get off the oligarch's social media platforms. Already on Lemmy and Mastodon, good for you! You're already on your way. Now stay off those other sites, don't let them take ownership of your IP.

  • Donate to free press organizations. PBS, NPR, The Guardian. Much like Russia today, we are going to need outlets outside of the US to keep us informed of the atrocities the controlled media won't share with us.

  • Contribute to and use your local library. Learn how you can peacefully resist from within. Assess how you can do so within your own life Stay informed.

Prepare

Things are going to get much worse before they (may) get better. Stash away some dry powder from when you need it. Don't trust the banks with all of your money. They now make the rules and own them.

  • If you can, get a safe and save for at least 3 months worth of funds. If you can't do that, save what you can.
  • Save a month's worth of food. Water, dry goods, preserved snacks.
  • Get some way to charge your phone off grid.
  • Most important - get connected with organizations. Find groups that are working to fight the BS. You will need to be plugged in when the time comes. At minimum, they can get you connected if the time comes to flee and regroup.
  • Get a firearm and learn to shoot it. You are going to need protection. Controversial, I know. Yet, When the time comes, the first and second estate and their sycophants are counting on us to fold. The judicial branch is looking weaker by the day. Learn from Türkiye - The pen is mightier than the sword up until someone takes all of the pens.
  • Learn a skill - take a nursing course; take a system networking course; store food, water, medicine or books. Store bottles of alcohol, a tank of gasoline or kerosine. Not everyone needs to be a fighter. If you're absolutely opposed to firearms, be someone who can provide auxiliary support.

The Blitzkrieg is coming. History will judge us at this pivotal moment. Who are you? One that rolls into the tides or will you join us in crashing against it?

The power they HAVE is the POWER we CEDE.

Possibly with tents numbering in the tens or hundreds of thousands. And that became such a halting thought that I forgot to rinse the shampoo out of my hair.

We live in an interconnected world. As an American, I’d like to know some ways that I could purchase goods, in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Canada and Mexico, and still avoid the tariffs.

Novels need both protagonists and antagonists. Let's tell the great novel of America that we would be proud to read to our grandchildren.
