Nah empathy is for the weak.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 140 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Well fuck. Now I have to actually have empathy for his death or he will get what he wants. 😭

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 170 points 1 month ago (8 children)

have empathy for his children, who didn't ask to be born into this

and uh I guess that's about it

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 56 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yeah no way that thing walked away unscathed.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 21 points 1 month ago

Well at least it wasn't a waste.

He did say kids should see public executions.

"Death penalties should be public, should be quick, it should be televised. I think at a certain age, its an initiation...What age should you start to see public executions?" -Kirk

[–] shani66@ani.social 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

nah, those kids are definitely gonna privately celebrate. i know i did when my horrible dad died

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

His daughter just turned 3, and his son is 16 months old. I don't think they're going to celebrate. But, they're going to grow up hearing stories about how their father was a martyr who died heroically, trying to save the soul of the USA. Let's just hope that as adults they're able to see past that brainwashing and understand what a truly horrible person their father was.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Depends on how involved their mother is in the crazy movement.

At least one of the other Toiletpaper guys (Matt Walsh, or the change my mind guy maybe?) was treating his wife so badly that she left him and posted the surveillance videos of his dickhead behavior.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

Honestly, they're all so interchangeable. I thought Charlie Kirk was the Change My Mind guy. It turns out that conservative white guys with big fat heads are a dime a dozen.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

we can only hope that they realize what he truly is

Can't understand me right now? Just play this when you eighteen <- Kendrick Lamar

[–] fuckgod@feddit.online 6 points 1 month ago

They gotta be too young to come out of the programming.

[–] cheers_queers@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah i guess they didnt asked to be spewed from his tiny rancid worm

[–] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Sounds reasonable.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 month ago

Does that mean you don't believe in empathy?

Sincerely believing in empathy as a guide doesn’t mean only when it’s convenient. Empathy isn’t supposed to be convenient.

For clarification, I'm not claiming he deserves empathy.

[–] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Empathy for the other people attending that rally who had to see such a violent event. Some were there to cheer him on, so fuck them. But, others were there to try to debate him. It was dumb of them to play into his game and participate, but still, some will be leaving that event pretty traumatized.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No because you kjow he meant 'except for me. Have empathy for me.'

So laugh at him and offer your neighbors dome help

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago

You know what else causes a lot of damage? Getting shot in your facist neck.

This is the full context of the quote for anyone curious like I was.

TLDW is that he follows saying he prefers sympathy over empathy

[–] certified_expert@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

TLDW. what would the difference between sympathy and empathy be?

[–] SomeAmateur@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)
[–] certified_expert@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would argue that the average person refers to a mix of both when they use the word "empathy":

  • caring about the other person's pain
  • being there for them
  • trying to see things from their perspective
  • wanting the other person to be better and wondering how one could help.

Classifying one as "a terrible problem" and the other as acceptable seems (at least) a bit pedantic. Specially when it comes to language, a dynamic phenomena in which words mean what (the majority of) people deem them to mean.

my two cents

[–] SomeAmateur@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The train of thought he talked about right when he said that was that in the past politicians said they feel your pain, even if they are an opponent. Now politicians try to make the case that people aren't in pain.

In that comparison I linked one of the differences is sympathy is feeling pain as your own and another is acknowledging pain without feeling it at all.

I'm not saying I agree with his take, but context made the quote made me go from "this guy doesn't care about others at all" to "grammar police sidenote where he wants people to say sympathy more" in my head

Context is important and I never heard or watched him at all so I wanted to share for people who were interested like I was.
