Absolute freedom is oppression. Immediately, the powerful use their freedoms to strip away the freedom of those without power, whether that power is social, economic, military, or otherwise.

People who want genuine equitable freedom know better than demand absolute, unrestricted freedom.

freedom is freedom from harm. you cannot be free in a system where elon musk is allowed to abuse his workers because he's rich enough to get away with it.

Do you feel free? I feel free. We feel free. Whee...

This is a third-world shit hole, right?

Have some respect!

We're a Gold plated, star spangled third-world shit hole thank you very much.

(this is a santa Cruz tent city, but there's one in every major population center in the US. I live in Las Vegas, the biggest one is up on the corner of Craig and (ironically) Martin Luther King Blvd.)

I thought most of them lived underground in Vegas.

[–] Allonzee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fair. I haven't seen that one.

That's because it's underground.

Oh actually tent cities are a fire hazard and not allowed on public land and wow suddenly I want rules and restrictions. /s

Republicans love government control, just it’s all insane-o reverse-o nonsense based on who they hate.

They never bothered to as who America was going to be made great for "again."

It was never really truly great for the little guy, but back in the early 1900s it sure was great for robber barrons and the ownership class... That's who they're making America great for again.

[–] Pronell@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's fine. Every poor conservative is a robber baron who just hasn't made it big yet anyway.

All I've ever wanted is to be left alone to live a small and humble life.

Since Reagan and Welch converted their opposition party and company cultures respectively, let's not pretend this hasn't been a bipartisan project for half a century. Neoliberals and Fascists playing good cop/bad cop on social issues to divide us and stop us from looking up at our common enemy while giving away the store to their bipartisan robber barron bribers and defending their various, murderous capitalist confidence schemes from the people they hurt. You can vote for any party you want, so long as they put reckless, short term economic metastasis at all human cost above everything else.

One with affirmation ribbons, one with scapegoating. Both for murder for profit, both for the poors dying in the streets to keep the laborers fearful and in line.
