Do a search for "pedophile pastor", "pedophile priest" or "pedophile preacher" and you will find page after page after page of sexual crimes against children.... To lighten the mood do an image search for golf cheat and count all the american presidents you see.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 16 points 2 hours ago

But remember:

Trans women in bathrooms are what you should be afraid/angry about!

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

How many of those are associated with Trump?

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml -3 points 2 hours ago

There are large numbers of pastors, priests, and teachers. Even if we expect pedophilia to be no more common in these professions than others, due to their proximity to children such crimes will be common. So I don't think the takeaway from this kind of google search should be that such professions are especially pedophilic.

I'm guessing he'll be granted a presidential pardon soon. They're making america a haven for rapists, paedos etc. Andrew Tate too pimp manipulator extraordinare. I remember arguing about him with a maga who assured me he'd never be allowed back into america. Probably decided Tate is innocent by now though.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Tate doesn't need a pardon, though. Just needs to never go back to Romania.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 4 points 3 hours ago

There are charges against him in the US and UK too, or soon will be. The guy travelled the world abusing women, bragging about it and telling young men how to do the same (for a fee). His father was a narcissist, and as we say in england, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

How many times does this have to happen until people figure out it's not a coincidence?

[–] suite403@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

For MAGA? I don't think there is a number.

In the south we have an idiom "Birds of a feather flock together", which means people tend to associate with others of similar morals, ethics, beliefs. So, needless to say, I'm hardly surprised. Trump associate and pastor? There was almost no chance this filth was anything BUT a pedophile.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 22 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

In the north we have a saying "don't leave your kids alone with a pastor". It isn't catchy, but it's good advice nonetheless

Here in the east we have a saying "Epstein didn't kill himself".

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Nah! Its probably just one more coincidence, don't you think?

I've seen a bunch of movies where the cop asks people the same question and they point to a guy, the same guy. Those shows are fun. Because of the coincidences. Am I right?

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Worry not: Trump can pardon him if he's ever convicted!

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 11 points 13 hours ago

Whew. Here I was worried that the rich and powerful would be held accountable for their crimes.

[–] card797@champserver.net 25 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

He is a pastor after all. Never trust your kids with one.

[–] suite403@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

My mom's pastor was accused of being sexual towards a woman. The whole thing sounded a bit sketch, so I'm not entirely convinced he did anything. But given the reputation of religious leaders inalso wouldnt be surprised.

My mom defended him by saying he "showed his chaplains ID for the police department." As if him being thr chaplain that goes in and attempts to convert inmates makes him a good person. It sounded more like a flex, like he was saying "try pursuing this, I have friends in high places."

Clemishire’s disclosure came as the Dallas religious community was still reeling from a handful of recent sex abuse scandals. Since then, at least a dozen Dallas-area churches or pastors have been accused of committing or concealing sexual misconduct — allegations that have ensnared some of the area’s most prominent leaders and institutions.

Is Dallas a sanctuary city for paedophiles? 'Cause it sure looks like it from here.

the Dallas religious community was still reeling

Religious communities never "reel" from anything. At most they just forget (temporarily) about their kid-diddling pastor and move on to next absurdly-coiffed dude. And then the first one comes back crying and is forgiven.

[–] supernight52@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago

No, the entire south is just where they all flee, since they can claim they are being "persecuted for my belief in GAWD" and the religious idiots just never question it. Despite the fact that they are a member of the most popular cult in the world, and the defacto religion of the US... Then when they start doing the same thing down south, the community will rally around their religious leader instead of kicking them out. Religion is a cancer.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 47 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

As I always say, keep your children away from religion. They are the pedophiles, and they accuse everybody else of it. It's a cult!

A religion is just a cult that has outlived its founder.

[–] Nelots@lemm.ee 20 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

And even if you think it's not a cult, your children will have plenty of time to meet God or whatever when they're old enough to make the decision on their own. Your god isn't so weak that he needs to indoctrinate impressionable children to gain followers, is he?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's the thing that always bothered me about religion. There's no sales pitch, its just indoctrination. There's a million different varieties of religion, and supposedly only one of them is "correct"

Judaism seems to make the most sense to me of the monotheistic varieties because there is no demi gods like Christianity. But clearly religion isn't about religion, it's more about having an in group.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Its all fake but I don't despise it all, some people seem to need it to make any attempt at being a decent person. However who could think its okay to indoctrinate a child? There's also the thing in america of swearing on the flag everyday at school or whatever... Wtf.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 2 points 31 minutes ago

It's like when you hear some hardcore Christians (and probably other hardcore religious people) say that without the threat of eternal damnation they would be going around raping and murdering other people all over the place. And to them that's the main justification for the need for religion.

To me that's just a massive red flag that they are psychopaths and completely horrible people. If the only thing keeping you in check is angry sky daddy then you have something profoundly wrong with you.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Religion is a net harm in my opinion. For every person that is inspired to do good, an equal amount do as much or greater harm by doing bad in the name of religion. That's not even to mention the weird thought processes that arise from the afterlife concept... Climate change not mattering being a prime example.

I fail to see how people need a moral code written by god to be good. I think if you somehow could mind wipe the earth of religion, there would be a similar number of equally good and bad people here. You certainly wouldn't have to worry about dominionists provoking war to start the beginnings of their idealized end times.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 1 points 3 hours ago

I agree. I'm deeply suspicious of any organisation which gives people access to vulnerable people. Religion in some form has been around so long that its hard to argue that at least some people don't need it (saying this as an agnostic/atheist). I also don't think it's right to ban it, but definitely we should insist on fully secular societies and not allow indoctrination of children. Then it dies out naturally as it has here. The UK is majority not religious now, very few people go to church even if they consider themselves christian (and they're almost all old), but another thing which makes me angry is that the churches own massive amounts of our land still, plus £billions in assets and then they still get government hand outs. That's not in the public interest at all. I think religions should be banned from owning any buildings or land, trading, and made to pay taxes like a business. If they're involved in any abuse they should be shut down and assets confiscated.

Yes, actually.

Name an industry that if they had this many child sexual predators, wouldn't be immediately shut down and banned from operating ever again.

Seriously. Can you imagine if, say, NASA had the same ratio of child sexual predators as Christian churches do? Or Applebee's? Or Jiffy Lube? They'd all have to close up shop. Hell, there's a daycare in my town that was in business for 30 years, and a teacher got busted for diddling a kid. That place was done for THAT WEEK. Doors closed, never opened again. Probably tens of thousands of kids came through that place just fine, but all it took was ONE, and they were kaput.

These fucking churches need to be shut the fuck down. Those black metal guys in the 90s had the right idea.

Hollywood has a lot of pedos.

[–] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago

So does the music industry. Emo bands were notorious for it.

Now it seems like YouTubers are the new emo bands. There have been a lot of Minecraft, Roblox, etc YouTubers who have been caught.

Why is it always the church? That's rhetorical by the way. Fuck organized religion that makes everyone bend the knee.

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 6 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

80% of church goers believe that shit. The other 20% are there because of all the easy pickings.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 3 points 13 hours ago

Bad people are still bad in church, despite baseless apologist screeching about their fantasy of skydad making morals objective.

“Few, if any, were more high-profile than Morris, who steadily involved himself in state and national politics after founding Gateway in 2000”

The 90’s nerd in me did a huge double take when I read Gateway 2000
