Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Undead recognize undead.

One out of touch senior citizen says that another out of touch senior citizen should remain in power.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago

Their advanced age is not the most important issue. They're out of touch, complacent and unfit to lead the party in such dangerous times.

Welp, I guess she gotta go too then. The democratic program in congress at this point should be a single point:

Resist. Every. Step. Do not aid or abet fascism, do not appease or support it in any way whatsoever, and anyone who falls out of line gets the axe.

They both need to hand they pay over to AOC

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 25 points 4 days ago

When Pelosi can get the fuckin' boot too.

I'm going to do everything possible to get them out come election. Time for them both to retire.

Never ceases to surprise me how much people's brains rot as they get older. Same with Joe Rogan, he used to be the UFC announcer guy who brought on real top level experts and listened, now he's just a step removed from screaming about gay frogs.

Bring up that gay frogs clip Jamie

now he's just a step removed from screaming about gay frogs.

He wouldn't. He'll bring on an "expert" on "gay frogs" and start Just Asking Questions-ing off while pretending to disagree. Once Gay Frogs Gary is platformed and given some time to spout off shit, then he'll start subtly agreeing and posing conspiratorial questions under the guise of continuing his JAQing off session.

To anyone with critical thinking skills, sure. Try convincing the morons who believe he's not a disinformation superspreader about that, though.

That might be drugs, not age. I doubt if the 'roids help cognitive function, and overuse could very likely have a negative impact.

There are plenty of people who are old as dirt but can still run circles around much younger people.

If she ties herself to Schumer that much, maybe it is time for her to go, too.

Amazes me that after Pelosi finally gets dethroned and loses her position, she still tries to issue press releases.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

She's still the one that the press asks questions.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nancy, you're an ass hair away from losing your entire base.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

She's already pretty widely unpopular among democrats due to the constant campaigns against her for marrying a stock broker.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I think the insider trading is more relevant than who she married.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

She's probably never made a trade in her life, in the USA married couples have joint assets so she has to report all of her husbands trades by law that she helped pass. The husband that she married in college.

The biggest example of "insider trading" I've seen people accuse her of was VISA offering her husband stock options right before a big vote on VISA regulations, but then she voted against VISA's interests. Her husband still made a profit, though. There are some years they operate at a net loss, and the majority of wealthy stock traders in congress are Republicans who didn't even marry any stock brokers.

I used to mock people for wanting to outlaw all stock trading in congress including Nancy's circumstance as it would basically force her to divorce, him to retire, or expel her from congress. Right now, though, I'm thinking we've had enough of her time in the spotlight and that some younger legislators should replace her, so onwards and upwards with banning trading.

Do you think it's an envelope of cash or direct deposit or just a check?

[–] droopy4096@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

While somewhat effective during POTUS45 she's useless now and listening to her is like listening to drier tumbling your clothes - amusing but ultimately useless

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 2 points 4 days ago

Sad reality is that:

  • no matter how much informed people hate her, the base is still going vote for her because of name recognition and party support
  • they don't care were the country is heading. they will still get their checks from donors, they will still make money on insider trading
  • all the terrible things Trump does just means more campaign contributions for the Dems, for all they care Trump winning was good for business
  • Bernie tried to take over the party and it failed, people can try again but it will be extremely difficult to do
[–] NimdaQA@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Of course, Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want her inside trading partner to leave.
