Trump, a very stable genius knows high speed rail is a good idea. I am extremely against high speed rail as an antifa leftist.

carcinisation of mass transit – right-wingers and tech bros keep re-inventing the train

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 78 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Except they always do it in the dumbest ways because they don't want to have to rub elbows with plebeians. They want their own private service, every time.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago

Trains used to have private cars, that's totally available to those shit bastards. Train don't care

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 35 points 1 week ago (1 children)

what if we put everyone in an artillery shell and simply fired them along a ballistic arc toward their destination?

At least this is a real train, not "pods" or just some teslas in a tunnel.

[–] cerement@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

some teslas in a tunnel with no clearance and no ventilation

If trump managed to build effective high speed rail that goes coast to coast, hits more than just NYC and LA, and is affordable, I think history would probably end up forgiving him for a lot of shit.

Never gonna happen though.

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 86 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I wouldn't trust it for a second. They'd use it to move minorities into camps more efficiently

[–] modus@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Arbeit Macht Frei, baby.

That's German for "All aboard the Trump Train!"

Yeah, they would arrest more Latinos without due process and have us build the rail as slave labor (contracted out to their corporate buddies, ofc.)

And there is no forgiveness either.

This is exactly how you motivate a toddler.

I am for high speed rail, but I am 150% against the Trump train.

I would prefer my 200mph train to stay on the tracks.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

When you arrive at the train station, the trump train pulls in, and its 2 jackasses pulling a train of red wagons built by telsa.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 48 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On an unrelated note I, another scary leftist, am so triggered every time I see a Tesla. Right wingers switching to EVs really makes me feel like an owned lib.

200mph? Like those french trains in the nineties?

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Yeah, even the german ICEs can do that much. US mediocratism as usual.

200mph is pretty good. That's 320 kph. IIRC, China's high speed rail has a max speed of 350kph, often cruising at 300kph.

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly at this point, we should just all fully get behind this tactic as I think it genuinely has a good shot of accomplishing more than taking politics seriously.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago (4 children)

The giant, gaping flaw in your idea is that it requires leftists to all rally together and cooperate on a unified plan and actually work together.

Don't worry it will be bankrupt in no time like all the other Trump stuff including Casinos.

[–] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 week ago

It's high speed rail. I'm guessing the general attitude in here is that we don't want this to fail.

well US could have been already working towards that if Elon did not derail all funds to his ridiculously failed hyperloop

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (3 children)

With America's amazing track record of spending big on repairs and maintenance to infrastructure, I can see absolutely nothing going wrong with this at all.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's declare a war on bad infrastructure! We can funnel all "War on Y" money in. America First! Let's reduce unemployment with a huge jobs program. Hire everyone to build tracks, trails, and parks.

puts on red hat Yep just MAGA over here with my high speed rail and free universal healthcare, just as the founding Trumps intended

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago
[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Trump supporters haven't figured out we don't just oppose them blindly, it's just almost all terrible ideas.

Throw a good idea out there like a high speed train, and we have no problem supporting it, because non-Maga are generally well adjusted humans capable of reasoning.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 14 points 1 week ago

I would be amazed if they can actually build the train using only American parts like they claim.

I just got back from my local Trans Action Committee weekly meeting and interrupted their discussion on their plans to further subvert our children to ask them about this, and they hate the idea!

Hitler made the trains run on time.

(Not really)

[–] LocoLobo@lemm.ee 12 points 1 week ago (3 children)

No, but Hitler built the Autobahn (mostly for war purposes) and to this day there a still a few Germans that use this for "at least he did something good".

Surely nothing bad will follow Nazis building trains.

[–] RangerJosey@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

Only 200mph tho? Kinda weaksauce compare to 🖐"CHINA"🤚

[–] The_Caretaker@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I would be happy if they just brought back the light rail that got people around in American cities 100 years ago before the car manufacturers bought up all the rail lines and shut them down. Crossing the country by train would be great but we need to be able to get across town first.
