Oh, to live in a country where THIS is the most pressing legislative priority.

I'm jealous.

It's basically impossible to find a job in Finland right now if that makes you feel any better

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Oof.

Doesn't Finland have UBI though? They've also basically solved homelessness.

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yeah there's support. But Finlands economy is really stagnant right now. Also they border Russia. And the country is politically swinging to the right like most places today

The grass is always greener lol

Fair points.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that unemployment means something very different in more extreme capitalist countries. :)

Oh yeah I'd rather be Finnish than American right now haha

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How are you and your fellow Finns with expats? I have dreamed of learning Finnish and trying to get a visa

[–] Miaou@jlai.lu 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Expats? You mean immigrants?

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They both kind of mean the same thing

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, Expats is a made-up word.

[–] Tonava@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All words are made-up, that's how they work! /j

[–] MITM0@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

Made up as in a fake word with no real weight, kinda like rizz or skibidi

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not Finnish but I tried to move there a few years back. Finland is sadly quite xenophobic.

I think all the Nordic states are hard to get in to as well. Oh well.

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah my life dream is to live in Iceland but short of marrying someone there it's probably never happening

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All really cold countries have solved homelessness...

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Come to Canada lmao

The first change to the law sets a minimum age for operating an e-scooter at 15.

I suppose that's sensible, we have the same age limit for driving a moped.

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

personally I think this needs to be enforced in the US too because a lot of stupid ass kids end up in traffic nearly getting hit by cars without a helmet on on those E scooters cuz they're dumb

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

True, they shouldn't be allowed on the roads, but if you required an age limit of 15 for e-scooters why not e-bikes as well?

And then if you need an age limit for e-bikes why not regular bikes?

[–] Dhs92@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago

Because a kid on a regular bike can't easily go from 0-30mph within a few seconds

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Regular bikes don't have a motor. E-bikes and e-scooters do have a motor. Some regulation on e-bikes may be needed, but regular bikes have been regulated as much as is needed. Maybe a helmet law, but even that seems unnecessary.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So what? They're still governed to similar speeds. I have a regular bike and e-scooter, and I pass and get passed by people on both all the time.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Most people cannot ride a bike at anywhere close to the speeds that an e-bike can hit. I pass professional cycling teams daily on my e-bike because I can do 20mph. The average professional cyclist seems to struggle to maintain 15+mph. I only get passed by a normal bicycle maybe once every few months, and those guys and gals have gastrocnemius' that are about as big as my waist. My current e-bike has just under 2500 miles on the odo, my previous one blew up at just over 11,000 miles. Oh, and technically both e-bikes could do 25 mph, that just wears out the motor in less than 1000 miles.

Love to see legal responsibility for children. Need more of it.

I mean, if they fine the kid, realistically the parent is probably paying it anyway.
