I think people who hated school generally didn't sit in the back of the class dying of laughter with their friends. I know I definitely didn't.

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 5 points 4 hours ago

I wouldn’t have hated school if that was part of it

Ah, the good memories of being bullied and being told to kill myself

[–] Rin@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Now you can be bullied, told to kys and cyberstalked online

[–] dontbelievethis@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago

And pay taxes!

I didn't have friends in school. Hell, because of my undiagnosed autism and untreated trauma, I didn't even have peers.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I'm hind sight, many of my "friends" were bullying me, I was just happy not to be 100% alone

I had that experience in school. Even in college people would invite me to their dorm and put me in strange situations just to see how I would react. They didn't know anyone else like me.

Felt like being in a zoo. Or a circus. It was nice to be sought out, though. And they were clueless kids, so I try to not hold a grudge about it.

My last year of high school was the best year of my life.

This meme is completely unrelatable.

I hated school.

I never sat in the back of a classroom dying of laughter with friends.

[–] Sergio@lemmy.world 21 points 9 hours ago

Most people hate school. Even the "smart kids", what they really like is learning or knowledge, not school.

[–] underscores@lemmy.zip 9 points 8 hours ago

I had friends in school and it still fucking sucked

The best part was music class and gym

College was better because people were more mature and in my experience the friend groups were more stable and less drama

No, thanks. Uni was so so much better and having money is even better.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 51 points 12 hours ago

Way to say you had a good school experience - and everyone should. But not everyone does, unfortunately.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Hah! As if the teachers would let you sit in the back. Up front, dead center.

[–] AngrySquirrel@lemm.ee 4 points 7 hours ago

That was literally mandated for me in my mainstream classes by my IEP

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 28 points 11 hours ago

Nah. The school I hated didn't have that.

[–] Matshiro@szmer.info 8 points 8 hours ago

Still hate school

And I can still die of laughter at work

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 33 points 12 hours ago

I hated school because there was a bunch of kids mocking and laughing at me for most of it.

I guess some popular kids had good times by pulling my pants down or constantly hitting my chair during class. They must reminisce and miss those times, when they were laughing with their peers.

[–] n3cr0@lemmy.world 41 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I had no friends, back in school. I'm happy it's over!

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Same, I think often about when I met my school bully a few years after we left high school and I was back home over summer break working a temp job, he was the supervisor. He told me to quit the job, leave my home town and enjoy my life. Sounds like a stupid movie cliche I know. Anyway he was obviously depressed and kept talking about how school was the halcyon days.

I guess I'm grateful school was shit as I have gone on to know what not to look for from situations and what I want and need from friends and work.

Not a bad bully redemption arc

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

i accidentally picked the gayest high school to go to and even coming out as trans in my last year didn't cause me any troubles. even the old teachers who never saw a trans person (that they knew was trans) before me did their best to respect my pronouns and identity without judgement. and all that in Poland, a country not exactly famous for being inclusive.

but i got insanely lucky, school can be tough. my heart goes all to those who's joy of learning got dulled by others

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 9 hours ago

I wish that all schools were like that, everywhere.

I'm really happy to read that you had as positive an experience as realistically possible :-)
