No surprise there.
People seem to have forgotten that liberal democracy prevailed not through moral arguments or appeals to conscience. It prevailed because it was stronger in war and in peace. It makes more and better weapons when it has to, and enables its citizens a better life otherwise.
Look how Hungary oppresses LGBT people. That costs a lot of money and eventually only means that members of that minority pay less taxes and contribute less to the economy.
Look to the US. The poorest states in the nation are those that were committed to racial oppression. The US would be even richer without that frivolous waste of human potential. And not just the victims but everyone.
The biggest problem is corruption. Things like racism or anti LGBT are used to blame minorities for the problems caused by that.
"Were"?
If a story confirms your prejudices it's important to look closely. Supposedly in Germany the companies reduced investments during socialist governments to make them look bad. I have no idea how to verify it but if Hungary is opposing the European structure this much, I would check for retaliations before feeling confirmed.
Economics is hardly a prejudice. You're not making a lot of sense, anyway.
Surely pointing to China is a better way to make the point that liberal democracy is not the only road to riches. I simply want to encourage people to take a hard-nosed look at the tenets of liberal democracy. They are not a revealed truth. They prevailed for a reason.

Just like that? What makes you so sure? The reverse was true for the divided Germany. Both sides shifted resources there to make their system look good in comparison.
That Economic Times article cites a Kyiv Insider article, but doesn't link it, which I consider terrible journalism.

They keep quoting a report from Kyiv Insider, but I couldn't find a link to it in the article, only links to other articles on their own site.
Fun fact, when I attempted to copy "Kyiv Insider" from the economic times article, it turned out as "Do not copy this site's content!"
India times has a mixed reliability. But other sources like Le Monde 4th April, and other news outlets from Hungary, attest Hungarys Economic woes from an Eurostat report.
This year's Country Report on Hungary have been discussed at the start of June in Budapest, it provides good first insights into the state of Hungary's economy.
The report concludes:
Excessive centralization and intense government intervention are both holding businesses back, with the World Bank also seeing a serious deterioration in government indicators. For example, [Hungary has] dropped to 26th place among EU members in terms of anti-corruption controls and to the last, 27th place in terms of the quality of regulation. The structure of public spending has shifted from traditional tasks to economic intervention both compared to 2010 and when compared with the rest of the region, which she believes is not at all beneficial.
[Political economist and lecturer at the University of West Hungary] Zoltán Pogátsa stressed that Balázs Orbán, the Prime Minister's advisor [not related to PM Viktor Orbán], had identified that we [Hungarians] have fallen into the trap of a middle-income economy. [...] Many are stuck in this situation, but [Pogátsa] said that there is a wide range of literature on how to get out of it: those who have managed to escape have done so by strengthening human capital. However, the innovative potential of companies here [in Hungary] is severely limited by the fact that Hungary's human capital indicators are not on a par with those of other Visegrád countries, from healthcare and language skills to reading comprehension. He expects change to come only when the most important ministers will be those responsible for healthcare or education, but these areas currently do not even have their own ministries.
For a few years, Hungarian productivity did indeed grow, but this is relative. Compared to walking, a horse-drawn carriage is very fast, but not when surrounded by cars – and the Hungarian economy has jumped onto a horse-drawn carriage, while everyone else is driving cars ...
