Remind me, who spent billions funding and training the Taliban?

Remind me, who spent billions funding and training the Taliban?

Pakistan?

[–] Shareni@programming.dev 2 points 4 days ago

Meanwhile the USA possibly spent almost a bil on training camps in Pakistan, and who knows how much on the Pakistani ISI.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

Ya'll Qaeda

[–] BeNotAfraid@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Yeah, but the Taliban are at least not so nationalistic that they can recognise the usefulness of the engineering chops of manufacturers like Toyota. Say what you want, 10 years from now those Toyota Tundras in the desert will still be running. It's a crapshoot with the Ford F-150s.

[–] zephiriz@lemmy.ml 64 points 1 week ago

I have this and OP's saved on my phone next to each other.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 58 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The differences are the brand of truck they use, and that the Taliban actually seems to use the truckbed.

Lots of Christians believe that, come the end times, they will be bodily taken up into heaven. (That's the reason for embalming, to preserve the body for judgement day.) Since, of course, they'll take their trucks with 'em, they don't use the bed now. It'd suck so much to spend eternity with scratched paint.

One difference is that the Taliban are arguably pro-immigration, as long as the immigrant is a muslim who does as they're told.

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

GOP are also pro immigration so long as the immigrant is rich and white.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

And does as they are told.

[–] Brainsploosh@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Y'all Qaida, or maybe the Yee Hawliban?

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Just YeeHawd, a play on Jihad.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They are NOT pro gun, they are pro control. Guns are for the ruling class only.

[–] teslasaur@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Who? The republicans are firmly pro guns. If you're american, just buy one.

Did you mean the Taliban being pro guns laws?

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Republicans have and will pass laws that make it harder for nonwhites to obtain firearms, and they have raided and will raid nonwhites who stockpile firearms.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes! I wish the left would wake up. Now is not the time to be disarming yourselves.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

When the user said "they" it was in reference to the GOP.

[–] MunkysUnkEnz0@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I did some research on the Heritage Foundation, which is who is really running the country right now. They're the people behind Project 2025s. Their president is a member of Otis Dia A radical Catholic group.

In essence, our country is being run by a radical Catholic group... You're on point.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Otis Dia A radical Catholic group.

Opus Dei?

😄

Religious extremists gonna extreme religion.

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 6 points 1 week ago

Religions don't spread by the quality of their truth, but rather the quality of their violence.

[–] TheCleric@lemmy.org 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn’t that ISIS, not the taliban?

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You may be right about the pic, considering the seal on the flag.

I found it! The left uses Rams/Chevys/Fords and the right uses Toyotas.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Aren't Dodges supposed to plow thru the middle?

That's why it says Dodge right on the front there.

[–] Grizzlyboy@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago

They are one and the same. Rightwinged extremism is just the same thing with different skins.

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Looks like the Taliban prefer Japanese imports... 🤷

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

The Toyota Hilux is a guerrilla classic. Mega US trucks have nothing on it.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Murican junk would never have a whole war named after it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_War

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

If they’s sell them here we’d buy them, but they put a bunch of unnecessary junk in it and rebadge it for $20k more

They have such an apocalypse fetish. Im not one to kink shame but its gross.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Uh... I'm pretty sure that's exclusively an American Christian thing. Other religions, and for that matter non-American Christians, don't usually do the "we have to accelerate the end of times" thing. It's one of those weird things Americans cooked up.

"But the left one doesn't put burqa on women, therefore they're pro-women!" - delusional cultural-christians

[–] FundMECFS@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

And then somehow, we have the self described “model leftists” doing this:

[–] ftbd@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago

Y'all-Qaida

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mum I'm on TV!

Also understatement of the century all around.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You only feature in the title, so it's more of a 'on the news ticker'

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Look, beggars can't be choosers. Now excuse me, I have more controversial arguments to make so more people make memes about me.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Implying I MAKE memes! What, do you think I have a sense of work ethic or something?! No, I scavenge from the recycle bins of the internet, like a DECENT person.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

See the Afghan government just wasn't good enough for me to support, y'know?
