Friendly reminder that Republicans and their supporters are, literally, enemies of the people of the United States of America and its Constitution.

[–] Wahots@pawb.social 22 points 2 days ago

Not just America, this is a massive threat to world health. They betrayed our species.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So incredibly shortsighted. We only developed the mRNA vaccine for Covid-19 in under a year because 20 years ago we started researching it for exactly this scenario. If we had only started working on that body of research when a novel virus presented itself, no amount of money would be able to speed up the clock to deliver a vaccine that verifiably saved millions of lives in the same timespan.

When, not if, the next pandemic comes around, we will want to have that body of research knowledge to help protect us against it.

Let it be known that the Covid-19 pandemic cost US taxpayers trillions of dollars (much of it lost to actual fraud) because Trump thought it would be a good idea to pinch some pennies by cutting the funding for the US-backed watchdog organization that oversaw infectious disease labs like the one in Wuhan, China. "Saving" money by not investing in disease prevention now will end up costing an exponential amount of money more than whatever you think you will end up saving in the short term.

More stupid from the stupid administration.

For wellness gurus, health care is a threat to their business. That's why these people are defunding vaccines, because they'll make you lazy and not work out for your own health. Also a lot of them are eugenicists, see the chronically ill as "undeserving of life", and think "good genes attract each other" so a few generations adopting to polio will lead to blonde, blue eyed, muscle bound gigachads with chiseled chins.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

If they get their way, it sounds like history will just repeat itself, and you'll get a bunch of glass-jawed six-toed offspring they'll declare as "the next step in superior human evolution." Lmao

This kind of shit really leads me to believe that Russia has a sizable chunk of our government bought. The only thing this does is make us weaker on the national stage. Not only makes us a laughing stock with our closest allies (note the weird tariffs with Canada as another example of sabotage), but makes our enemies like Russia comparatively stronger.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 59 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That, or the rich think they don’t need the masses anymore. They believe the chaos they unleash strengthens their position. They want to punish commoners for almost getting enlightened and coming together during the lockdowns.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Oh, they know they need the masses. They're just forcing the masses to out-breed the death and disease through banning contraceptives and abortion.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Maybe. I’m starting wonder if they think they don't need us. Maybe they think they can automate everything and live off that. Maybe they think they can surround themselves with loyal guards and let everyone else die off.

To be clear: they’re idiots.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 17 points 3 days ago

AI and crypto are all about the goal of full automation and no poors.

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Tesla is making AI driven humanoid robots. Ai will also eliminate many categories of jobs.

The plan seems to be removing the pesky people from the system. They just whine about healthcare and need sleep every night.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Tesla is promising AI-driven humanoid robots. Will they deliver? Probably not.

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Unfortunately if it is anything like AI for software development, if the CEOs sense any progress they will fire people first and ask questions later. Even if the technology is subpar.

When new factories are created in the US, they will be as automated as they can be. Farming, driving vehicles (delivery, taxi, trucking, etc.), unloading trucks, stocking shelves; all of that will be done by robots eventually. Other jobs like entry level office jobs and customer support will be eliminated too and replaced with AI, as well as mid level management and creative work.

I don't know if Elon will deliver, but someone will -- and there is a ton of money on the line for whoever figures it all out first.

Maybe we'll all get to all live in some utopia, but I doubt it..

They need the masses but no longer as consumers. We’re at the cusp of a new era of indefinite detention of any individual accused of being illegal. Imagine how much the 1% will benefit off mass detention of individuals unendowed of their inalienable rights.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

"If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty-five percent of the population of Oceania"

[–] BabyVi@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

It starts to make sense when you realize they're eugenicists.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Americans are perfectly capable of being extremely stupid on their own.

From what I gather, he couldn't attack us directly after the Cold War so he hired Trump to occupy it. Centuries old tactic.

[–] carlossurf@lemmy.ca 27 points 3 days ago (4 children)

He should go to jail, he will be responsible for thousands of deaths, how the fuck do these people sleep at night

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It’s probably more like millions, as the consequences will be long-lasting.

Typically, super easily. They haven't had a conscience for decades. This is just another day for RFK.

Kennedy said in the Tuesday statement that he wants the health department to move away from mRNA vaccines, calling on the department to start “investing in better solutions.” He provided no details on what those technologies might be.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t mRNA vaccines the current “cutting edge” of vaccine technology?

These anti-vaxxers have some paranoid delusions about how mRNA vaccines work, and their insanity is literally going to kill us.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

mRFK (moron RFKjr) thinks he understands mRNA vaccines and that we should stay away from them. I hope human avian influenza hits him first, the asshole.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago

I took a covid vaccine, and some refreshers, and died 5 times.

RFK is a swindler. He sets a bar that doesn't exist. As he goes around shutting down various vaccines and medications, he says "Look folks, I just want these to be safe!"

Well, the thing is, there's not really such a thing as "safe" re: vaccines and medications. Hell, if you look at aspirin, there are thousands of injuries and even some deaths caused by it every year. Yet, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to eliminate aspirin.

He's setting an impossible standard and then selectively terminating anyone who doesn't fulfill it.

ANY medication/vaccine carries some inherent risk. The wise thing to do is if the benefits outweigh the risks, then allow it, otherwise, do not.

Imagine if all cars had to be taken off the road until we had a "safe" car that never had an accident. I think we'd be walking for quite some time.

Unfortunately, America is full of people who are long on anger and short on logic. They are tearing down things that took decades to construct.

The damage being done right now will take decades to unravel.

Fuck you, RFK. You were bad enough when you were a solo wingnut, but now the choices you are making is screwing over millions of people.

[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yet, I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to eliminate aspirin.

Don't give him ideas.

May he be simultaneously stricken with all respiratory viruses

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Maybe he already has, have you heard the guy speak?

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But then he'd be indestructible.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Let's hope he isn't Mr Burns

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He wants everyone to have that gargling 'toad trapped halfway down his throat' sound, so he doesn't stand out as much.

[–] SuperCub@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

Can we just call him Deepthroat?

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

A healthy, well educated population which feels safe and secure is incompatible with, and toxic to, conservative and authoritarian ideologies.

They need you to be sick, stupid, and scared.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Don't worry, you will be able to buy European vaccines. Or even Chinese. You'll just have to wait until the local population has been served in the next pandemic. And we'll gladly take vaccine develoment specialists here, I believe.

Next up is banning imports of 'dangerous' vaccines.

You'll need to travel to get it. Canada would probably help after taking care of its own citizens.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Ah yes. “Rebuilding American manufacturing” by destroying yet another industry we have a strong position in

[–] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago

After paying 250% tariff, I guess. Or is it 1500% discount? Idk, math is hard.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 13 points 3 days ago

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago

Cool, what about Trumpstein files though.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

On a side note; this need is from obs which immediately shows why it lost its funding. Can't have news organizations out there reporting the truth, now can we? I mean, if the Cheeto voters would really learn and see what they voted for, they'd lynch him
