@slykethephoxenix

There is no calculation. Build all the wind and sun needed to end carbon fuels, and do it quickly, or we die.

Everything else is a distraction to keep us from demanding the building of all the solar and wind engery needed to make carbon redundant.

Period.

Footprints is an Exxon distraction.

As expected, oil and gas producers under-reporting emissions are not mentioned. You're right, footprints are a huge misdirection.

I don't necessary agree with the article, I just thought it was interesting enough to post, even if easily refuted.

The dog being in the headline makes me think this article purpose is for people to say "fuck you environmentalist"

I posted the article because I thought some might find it interesting, I don't agree with the contents in the article myself. I agree with your take. But I think it's important to at least read what ideas are being put forward and to drive duscussion.

Sorry, but my dog causes less climate change than a CEO.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago

People often miscalculate how many CEOs and billionaires there are too.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sounds like you're at least slightly better than a CEO. Good job.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh fuck off. It's always a guilt trip to cover up the shitload of nothing that governments require corporations to do to reduce emissions. I'm going to keep my dog because she's awesome, and when she dies I'll get another. And we'll both eat meat.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 month ago

Does blaming puppy mills make it easier to give them money, or does it just cover up the bad feelings?

I have never owned a car and have always been very efficient with my traveling. But then the local police department parks half a dozen of police cars near the university, running 24/7 for months, to monitor the dangerous people asking the school to divest it's money from Israel.

Or, in a day or maybe a few hours, someone like Taylor Swift will pollute as much as I do in a decade.

But yes, I will avoid having a dog to make sure a rich billionaire can have two dozens of them to chase the poor from his domain.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz -4 points 1 month ago

The rich billionaire will still have dogs even if you don't, and the cops will still idle their cars even if you don't have them. They don't care. We're buying time for an armed revolution.

Drag had a dog growing up and loved it, but drag could never have one as an adult, because drag wouldn't feel right buying it meat. It's a bit selfish, but drag would rather let other people handle the dilemma about whether it's better to kill shelter dogs or dog food. Drag is perfectly happy with drag's dragon, and one day when we have our own house, we want to get two rats.

We need to launch missile strikes against rich asshole's private jets each time an article like this is published.

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is a great example of the propaganda published by the enemy.

Eat the rich. Now. Own a dog.

[–] slykethephoxenix@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I own 3 dogs, lol. I'm single handedly killing the planet.

[–] systemglitch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I'm throwing sticks to my planet killer as I type these words.

The most important climate friendly action you can take is to not have children.

Walk, bike and Take public transit in that order and eat vegetarian 5 days a week.

[–] slykethephoxenix@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Also, not driving. Something like 30%+ of microplastics are from car tyres.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have two dogs, a vasectomy, and an electric car. I think I'm probably doing more than a CEO to cut down emissions over my lifetime.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is being better than a CEO impressive?

[–] 5in1k@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Good. I hope climate change wipes out a huge portion of humanity. Fuck us. Makes me want a pack of dogs.
