Learning to sleep whenever you have a chance is one of the first skills soldiers learn

[–] SlacksMcTavish@lemmy.ml 29 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The military? That's where I learned to sleep anywhere!

As others have said, exhaustion mostly.

That one trick

Get up early, exercise, and kill some folks until you’re tired. Sleep like a baby.

It's so common there are memes about this.

The best was in training, putting your bag in your lap and leaning on it after a long day. Wake up and told to go eat. Smash in 10 minutes, finish off your 1qt canteen and go to bed.

Hard manual labor, especially marching with heavy equipment and military training, just knocks you out like nothing else.

Try marching all day with 100 lbs of armor and gear. You will sleep like a baby.

Done it and slept on tarmac, gravel... god I miss those days lol

You probably miss the guys, not the hardships... Or?

I have ADHD, so the hyper-structuralized schedule was good for me.

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

What I wouldn't give to find structure 😭

I mean, they “were” exercising a lot. I’ve found that usually helps.

[–] drolex@sopuli.xyz 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Oh yes, exercising. A lot of exercise with your almost naked best friends. Wrestling, sweating, and then to relax a good game of "guess whose abs are those, without looking". That's exhausting, for sure.

I meant all the marching and fighting but, yeah. It takes a Spartan to know what a Spartan likes.

[–] Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 week ago

And fresh air helps sooo much

[–] 3aqn5k6ryk@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

It's called exhaustion.

[–] riquisimo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

"fully clothed" Yeah in Greek speedos.

[–] CallMeAnAI@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You could if you got off your ass and marched 30 miles. Not a hard concept.

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

On the days I bike 20 miles I sleep pretty hard so I can definitely confirm

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm going to guess that if you expected to die tomorrow, there would be a fair bit of cuddling that would make sleep come easier. Aside from the exhaustion everyone is mentioning.

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

If I am going to die, yeah, sure, I might as well experiment a bit with the homies. Worst case, my regret will be pretty short, and it's not like I'll have to spend the next years being awkward around them anyway.
