As intended.

So does this mean we don’t have to pay taxes anymore?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 55 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No. That's only for rich people. You pay.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's unlikely but the person you're replying to could be a millionaire

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Everyones a millionaire these days! You're not rich until you're a billionaire! Even the McDonalds part time workers bring home a few hundred million each week.

...........what? I'm just talking like any normal human who totally knows the current economic climate would talk like! Thats why we gotta close down all these government handouts like snap and medicaid. It's free money for people who already get free money, from their stock options, and taxfree offshore accounts. EVERYBODY has those, right???

(In case you can't tell I'm being highly sarcastic. Does anybody have any bread???)

Do you have pamphlets?

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

If you're a billionaire, you weren't going to anyway. This means you'll be able to get away with more.

If you're not a billionaire, you still need to pay your taxes. This means if you're owed a refund, you won't get it.

I try to avoid paying most of my taxes, but I recently learned that if my balance hits a certain threshold I could have my passport revoked :/

Furloughed IRS workers were told in a letter that they will receive back pay when the shutdown ends. That letter came a day after an internal draft memo suggested that the Trump administration might question its obligation to give back pay to some furloughed employees.

Cnbc should have mentioned here that its probably against the law for federal workers to not get back pay due to a law passed in 2019 (also trump administration)

wapo link

It feels like major media companies are manufacturing consent for this by mentioning that memo repeatedly but not pushing back on it. Not even mentioning the legality of it.

If Biden does anything positive he will say he did that. But in this case, Trump is asking "did I do that?"

[–] Killer57@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago

Just do it like they do.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I saw this movie once called Zeitgeist that said that taxes weren't really legal anyway

[–] troy_frizzell@mstdn.social 6 points 3 weeks ago

@SlartyBartFast @vegeta

I once saw a movie where wizards were magic.

It was fiction.

So is the idea that taxes are illegal.
