For context the person in red (dark red is their sock account) was boasting about mass reporting the artist for art theft on their blog to get them banned from all the sites they're posting art on so the "I'm not accusing you of art theft" is a lie and they're trying to keep their trolling civil so it doesn't get removed

So the mod is threatening to ban someone for defending themself - seems like a dbag thing to do.

It's the I-don't-care-who-started-it injustice.

Often people in authority will see injustice and respond as if the real problem was that everyone else disturbed them, failing to even attempt to actually understand the situation first.

This is because power has been shown to cause changes in the brain that make you less capable of empathy.

We weaponized 0 tolerance in my highschool. After a friend got suspended for being suckered punched by a bully without even getting a chance to respond, we decided to take turns fighting the bully to 'use up' his 5 suspensions, rhe 5th of which resulted in a mandatory expulsion. And we did. The morning his suspension ended, right when he walked in the door, in full view of the congregated teachers, one of my friends hit him, earning them both a suspension. Next time he was back the same.

I've told my kids that I don't condone intiating violence, but if someone else starts getting physically violent first, feel free to fuck them up (provoking them will still get my kid in trouble, though).

However, if the institution itself fails to protect the kids, and my kid told me they and their friends were doing this on purpose, I'd take the day off for their suspension and take them to the arcade and a movie or something. And then I'd have a very serious talk with their principal.

Seriously, why do they even care? It's not like people are threating violence or even cursing each other out.

Continuing this off-site drama will result in temp bans for an three accounts

Normal Mod Behavior

What possible reason could one have to accuse someone of stealing a third person's art without proof? I can very vaguely understand falsely claiming it as your own work because that gets you (temporary) attention. But on behalf of someone else? Why? The only scenario that makes sense to me is that Red thought they'd seen the art elsewhere, didn't properly check before throwing out accusations, and this is them desperately trying to save face instead of simply saying "whoops, you're right, my mistake, I should've checked first, sorry".

Sidenote: how is this "off-site drama"?

What possible reason could one have to accuse someone of stealing a third person’s art without proof?

The troll wants to get the artist banned out of jealousy/spite, hoping the mod takes the bait. Their blog makes their motivations more obvious but the troll is pretending to be a civil "concerned citizen" here particularly on the bright red account.

Sidenote: how is this “off-site drama”?

I think the mod just saw how the links were to places like YouTube and other sites and assumed it must be off site drama without realizing Red is a troll.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 6 points 4 days ago

Goodness gracious, I've seen a lot of internet art drama but this is new.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

If I'm sure I saw it somewhere else, I would also speak up, BUT I would provide evidence of that. And I would ask in a different way, because it might have been that the artist just uses a new account name.

Why? Because I fucking had it with those motherfucking attention whores on this motherfucking internet.

I'm not the artist, but why should I not bring attention to somebody just stealing stuff and posting it as their own? It's great that artist post their art for free on the internet for us to enjoy, the least thing they should (and often sadly the only they do) get out of that is that their user name is attached to that.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Definitely, and thank you for doing that. I didn't mean to say it's weird to stand up for someone else, I'd do the same and I'd hope someone else would if my art was ever stolen. The important part here is bringing proof. The fact that they didn't do that strongly suggests they either were careless and messed up or, as apparently seems more likely, intentionally throwing out false accusations on behalf of some third person, the reasons for which baffle me.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 3 days ago

Oh for sure. Either they were jealous or can't admit they made a mistake (and were unnecessarily antagonistic).
