The whole world is fucking trippin

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 5 days ago

Real bro. It's like there's nowhere to run. Except up through Normandy beach when D-Days comes.

It's like that crazy plot from Hellsing Ultimate when the nazis tried to resurrect themselves for a third world war with the goal of world domination and there were millions of souls of deceased people and soldiers in London or something like that, I honestly don't remember it got pretty crazy.

But it feels as outrageous as that.

Late stage capitalism + social media engagement algos. It’s impacting almost every nation.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Social media algos are a product of late stage capitalism. 🥹

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To be fair, a lot of things are but I think it’s still an important detail

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Agreed. It's got notable, outsized externalities like some other notorious industries like the fossil fuel one.

“Why is world getting worse? We need a strong conservative to get us back before the world got shit from strong conservative policies” - dumbasses

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

People understand that their position is getting worse and worse every year. The liberal parties are all promising to stay the course and maybe throw a couple bones to token minority groups. The conservatives are promising to punish all the dirty minorities that ruined everything and make it all better. Your average voter has no political inclination and when one group says they aren't gonna change anything, and the other offers radical change, it's not surprising why voters will go for the change option.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 5 days ago

Wish this post was higher up. It's literally an Us vs Them mentality.

Minorities and the majority both desperately vying for their own interests instead of working together. The ending won't be pretty.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 8 points 1 week ago

It's striking how little many people know about history and politics, but more concerning is how little they care. My old coworkers just don't seem to care much. And they won't even feel shame because their only priority seems to be protecting their ego.

Reminds me of Brent from The Good Place, honestly. "No. No. I'm a good person. I'm a good person!!"

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 68 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Like MORE ultra conservative to standard Japan politics?

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 5 days ago

God, that's a scary thought isn't it?

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, socially. But also a weird flavor of Japanese conservatism economically. She supports strong economic interventionism, massive stimulus funded by additional debt, cash distribution, etc. Not at all a free market type.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 21 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

I was commenting the other day on how she says that Margaret Thatcher is her greatest hero, but that she's an advocate of economic policy more in line with Shinzo Abe's stuff, which really isn't in line with Thatcher.

IIRC Liz Truss had some similar statement, and the policy that she went for during her time as Prime Minister was also pretty loose.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 5 days ago

Oh gross dude. So basically the chick from that one episode of Eric Andre.

When she says that she doesn't mean "I agree with her". It doesn't mean "I take great inspiration from her".

It merely means "I want to be seen as Thatcher's equal".

[–] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 54 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Sooo… we only need the AfD to win in Germany to get the old gang back together? /s

[–] gusgalarnyk@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh god, I just moved here please no. Lol. No AfD, ideally no CDU either. I just want to live in a country doing well and moving in a progressive direction where everything is getting better. Bitte.

[–] despite_velasquez@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Genuinely surprised that Western media painted the CDU a salvation front against the AfD, but their Wahlsprogramm was equally, if not more bigoted and extremist than the AfD (at least on paper)

[–] Hudomi@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

CDU is AfD light. While CDU "merely" fists us in the bum to enrichen the rich, AfD would do the same but with the jackhammer. It's so obvious and yet people keep eating up their shit and think they will do any better. The protest voters will be in for a rude awakening. Just like Trump voters.

[–] gusgalarnyk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I think a lot of Western media is owned by the ultra wealthy or are incompetent. The CDU is clearly, for my sake, analogous to Republicans in the US pre-trump. They serve corporate masters, their policies are not based in scientific knowledge aimed at improving the lives of their constituents, and they will continue to make most everything they touch worse slowly. The CDU will slowly lead the country into needing either a non-corporate serving left response or the far right who will offer false but powerful narratives about how their corporate serving conservative based policies will be totally different than the CDU's.

It's just... It's predictable and sad. We need to strengthen our education systems, our media systems, and create better systems for getting local people involved in local issuesbl and making a difference because I think that's a good booster against bullshit politicians.

Why are all these women conservative? What's there to gain for them? I feel like conservative views work against women rather than for them? At least that's what I've grown up believing.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Since no one else said it yet, it's called "pulling up the ladder behind you".

The only way to get ahead of being subjugated is to become one of the subjugators yourself. It's been most women politicians go to move in modern history, "Join the ruling class before I'm beneath their heel" as the only solution their brains can come up with for survival, even though in the end that always ends up happening anyway.

"First they came for the communists..."

[–] Nosavingthrow@lemmy.world 87 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Rich" is actually the best gender to be.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Some times I wonder. But yeah... Probably.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

The class war almost invariably underpins the other apparent social conflicts.

[–] deadcream@sopuli.xyz 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I don't they care about other women. Or people in general. If you an upper class woman running for politics then such policies would never affect you personally. Consequences are for "lesser" people.

This is just what she choose to built her political career upon, because such views are popular in Japan and therefore she would be able garner support and boring base. What matters is that it will get her to power. I sincerely doubt she actually believes into any of that.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Women aren't immune from being stupid fucking idiots. Just look at all of the Republican female politicians and entertainment pundits.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Oh so true. Stupidity is not tied to gender, innit.

[–] ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not idiotic, just evil and self-serving. Hell is not a male-only space. 🤷

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 3 points 1 week ago

It can be all 3!

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's so fucking spineless. People shouldn't be able to pursue a political career. They should be chosen to lead by peers or some other weird system. Like okay now it's my turn to bear the responsibility. Otherwise it becomes something people pursue, and it becomes all about the power and the money. Disgusting.

[–] deadcream@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well the usual response to this is that people who don't want to be in position of power would do a shit job at it (to the point of being net negative).

Most people don't want "bear the responsibility", they want someone else to do it.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I say let's have a system whereby if the ruler(s) do a good job according to the wide public, they are rewarded accordingly with taxes. If they do a shit job, they are rewarded with nothing. This way, we get politicians working for us rather than for themselves. I mean it would be also for themselves, but any net gain for them would be forced out of altruism. This way, you would aspire to be a hero if you could manage. And if you weren't fit to rule, you'd resign very quickly because it would be a waste of your time to gain nothing.

Any holes to poke through this? 👂🔥 All ears! Let's build a better system!

If you are in power, your gender becomes irrelevant.

Why else would a fuckton of oppressive monarchs be women?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I got it, yeah. Depressing af isn't it.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 14 points 1 week ago

Girlbossing shitty policies.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago

Ah the suspicious and somehow expected rise of conservative ideologies...

Japan? Progressive? Japan is hugely patriarchal. I guarantee this lady is nothing more than a face for the all-male leadership behind her.

Just more global backsliding of democracy due to old people being racists.

[–] icelimit@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

I thought there was some drama about her being kicked outnbecause of some scandal one of her appointments are associated with?

[–] dogbert@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Conservatives: a small group of people should control the world!

Liberals: half of them should be women!

That’s how we got here.

[–] shifty@leminal.space 3 points 1 week ago

An admirer of former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

She burninated all the people

That being said, if you go back 100 years, Japan has only had 7 or so prime ministers that lasted 3 or more years. Most last 1-2 years or less. I'm not sure how much she can change, but its worth watching what new coalitions form with the LDP and also the rise of Sanseito (MAGA inspired Japanese-First party) in future elections.
