Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

Coming soon: Trump admin changes course, will replace entire white house with a Trump tower.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 74 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I feel like that’s unironically the actual plan.

That, or he’ll leave a ruin, and “govern” from his Florida shithole.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 21 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Trump literally destroying the white house would be amazing actually

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 25 points 4 days ago

They already have the designs for the replacement.

Germania - Albert Speer

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 days ago

I watched the Whitehouse get trashed in Captain America 4, I didn't know it would come true within a year

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 38 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

"Trump DC will be the biggest, highest, most beautiful hotel and casino in the state, possibly maybe the country. It'll host delegates and friends from all over the world. We're looking into how the federal government can license the trump trademark and brand, the beautiful name - everybody wants it on the building, for a 1000 year lease. You're WELCOME america!"

Edit- oh neat, my favorite right wing shithole is already creating artistic representations

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 25 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

And not a damn thing will be done about it, nor will a single person with the power to stop him say a godamn thing.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

Well he plans to be dictator for life, he might as well own the castle

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

This mother fucker 100% is going to try and cbarge rent if he ever steps down and god forbid a black person try to enter the house

[–] Ancalagon@lemmy.world 74 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The symbolism of a destroyed white house and our government shutdown is what this is form

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 22 points 4 days ago

Putin is creaming his pants right now.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 63 points 4 days ago (3 children)

It really is mind boggling that we still aren't acting against our government. It's a constant barrage of news about things getting increasingly worse, a whole available plan for what to expect and tons of comments about how "they're gonna pay". Like it's absurd at this point.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 26 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Cause people still haven't gotten the severity of the situation through their heads. I lost my temper today at someone who said they're looking forward to when he's out of office. Don't you get what's happening? He isn't going to leave office. There isn't going to be an election as normal. The fascism isn't ending until there's a violent revolution or war

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Then go out and lose your temper on the people causing the problems. I know exactly where this is going, but if I lift my head from the mill for even a second the slave driver will have it cut off. We're not stupid, we're scared. We're too scared to miss work for a protest, imagine how scary an armed rebellion would be.

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I like your optimism in thinking there will be an office to leave.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 21 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Seems like the USA will just let it slide into civil war and genocide.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 13 points 4 days ago

For a civil war to happen 2 sides have to fight. One side is mentioned above.

[–] j_elgato@leminal.space 9 points 4 days ago

Considering the number of shooting victims we have here, how would we even notice?

[–] MTZ@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] cnirrad@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

I had to triple check that this wasn't from the Onion. What a joke.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 24 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I’m so glad they’re spending all that money on this, when all the social programs (Medicare/Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, Social Security – including disability – and everything are losing funds.

Let them eat cake!

e: I am desperate for people to start throwing pieces of cake onto the WH lawn as protest. Pretty sure that wouldn’t be lost on most people.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Trump should be arrested for vandalism.....on top of the hundreds of other things he should be arrested for

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Tbf, if he was arrested today for vandalism, I’d be spitting angry he wasn’t arrested prior for all the fucking child rape.

Like, I already am, but that would send me over the edge. I might start mixing potassium with random things.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

I'd be happy to see him finally face consequences for something......anything

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Where's all the "you can't knock down history" people?

[–] MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Someone elsewhere on Lemmy said the East Wing went up in 1902. Based on that, since that's younger than the Civil War, the "history matters" folks who want all the statues of evil to remain probably don't care.

[–] JokklMaster@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Yeah except those statues didn't go up until well into the 1900's.

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Pssst... I'll give you a clue what this is about:

The East Wing was built on top of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a secure emergency underground shelter for the president.

[–] Sweetpeaches69@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't get the angle. Wouldn't that mean he would have nowhere to hide?

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Or that he wants more tunnels and exits.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 4 days ago

Damn, so he's trying to steal the vault of unused pardons before the Payday gang can get there.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 20 points 4 days ago

They're making more room for the giant "Trump" sign he wants to put up.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

will be hilarious if construction does not finish while he is in office.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 days ago

He'll be in office for a thousand years, according to him. After which the contractors still won't have been paid.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

Weekend at Donnie’s.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (2 children)

We Americans are just watching this asshole literally destroy the WH.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I mean… what are we supposed to do? I only live half way to the other coast and it’s still a 22 1/2 hour drive. That’s assuming I could afford the gas and time off work.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I feel you. I'm in the same boat. Even if I lived nearby and was independently wealthy, then what?

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world -5 points 4 days ago

UBI would allow you to do what you wanted. Which one was it that wanted to go that route in 2016?

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I'm fine with it. Just demolish the whole building. Then move on to Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court, and the Pentagon.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Rare occasion where the headline is... pretty much it, at least as far as this article goes.

Sure, we could point out that the east wing is for events and it's the first lady's office (which obviously matters very little to MAGA) but NYT doesn't spend nearly enough time emphasizing that this is illegal, like most of the shit he does this past year.

They're probably trying to wreck as much stuff as possible before a judge, once again, puts a stop on it (only for an appeals court to shrug and say it's too late and allow it).

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Who owns the Whitehouse? Is there someone who can theoretically evict the president?

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Congress, through impeachment & removal

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

The White House is owned by the Federal Government. Theoretically that means it’s owned by the taxpayers, in practice you would be charged with trespassing on government property if you weren’t specifically allowed on the grounds (if not just straight up terrorism or whatever other charges they feel like throwing at you).

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 5 points 4 days ago

I've been in the east wing. It was pretty.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 4 days ago

My guess is trump thinks the Epstein file was being stored in the East Wing.
